Does weed get you less motivated

I only smoke if im sure that i have 4 hours time where i can fully enjoy being high and dont have to do anything that requires my motivation or coming in contact with people that could dislike me being high. I dont understand why people smoke before work/school/doing important shit...i mean just because it is labeled as a "soft drug" people think they can use it all day without having any consequences...if you use weed responsibly its a very rewarding and safe drug but being stoned all and every day will lead to problems in some kind of way, as abusing every drug does. I never noticed me getting slower or less motivated when i wasnt high and i smoke almost every day..

haide :D

I don't think that weed makes you less motivated. It will just make you more content with being bored, or doing something that would normally be boring. But, you can always get off your ass and do something when your high, its really just a decision you make, not the weed controlling you.

I change my answer. I ran about a mile and back to get papers, so no. Although i have had lazy spells before so i guess its just a roll of the dice for me.

ya i was thinking about this last time i was tripping, in how I think it's all brain power that controls what you do on weed. I feel like weed allows me to access more of my "brain energy" and accomplish more tasks in certain situations. (i.e. going to the gym, cleaning dishes or apartment, tedious homework), but there's also been times when I waste all day watching TV, exploring outside (not really a waste, but can be if you have prior homework obligations), or video games).

I have an important test I need to take at some point and I haven't really started studying for it yet, but I feel like if i gave it a try with weed maybe i could really start moving thorough some material. idk tho. i'm afraid i won't retain what i go over as well.

When I first started smoking it did cause me to be lazy and I had no motivation at all. Now, 10 years later, weed does make me feel somewhat lazy, but I still accomplish what I need to accomplish for the day.

depends what it is .
Itll just make me be motivated to do things i wanna do more .
But at the same time making me less motivated to do something i dont exactly want to do i.e working or studying , and that sort of stuff .

This whole thread is kinda a stupid question .

Thats what humans are like naturally. what i said above .

Weed makes me lazy these days. I think it's because I've been smoking everyday for 5 years now. I mean, I am sort of a lazy person but when I have things to do, I get them done. I tend to procrastinate on things when I'm stoned or I lose my attention span and I just want to sit and zone out. I wake and bake every morning and I have noticed it puts me in that, "Ugh, I don't want to go to work today" mood but it makes things less stressful. Maybe it does depend on the strain, who knows. I don't pay attention to that, it's all weed to me.

Well for me actually it makes me go outside enjoy nature more lol. I don't have motivation with or without it really LOL, I just do nothing all day, Well I am into bicycles. That's with the marijuana it makes me ride my bike a lot!

Lazyscience stated: "i think its that unmotivated or lazy people smoke weed". And both I, and the chemical makeup of most cannabinoids, agree with that proposition. Its not the weed that makes people lazy, its the person themselves. As Lazyscience said, usually its the lazy, unmotivated people who smoke a large sum of cannabis. It allows you to enjoy life more than when you are sober, they take advantage of it, and do little to absolutely nothing because they have no ambition. They already have their ambition, SMOKIN MOOOOOORE POT! I smoke pot consistently, and I have plenty of physical activity and study quite a bit as well. Even while im high! Pot really does not interfere to significantly with daily activities, unless you consider making your day better a notable interference as well.(higher dosages may create different circumstances)

I think that it depends on what your intentions are when you smoke.

If you are smoking in order to be a little more creative when writing a paper, you will do just that.
If you are smoking to make cleaning a little more interesting, you will clean like you never have before.
Now if you are smoking to just relax and sit on the couch, then that's likely what will happen.

Dosage will also play a role in this, and if you are planning on writing a paper and smoke too much, then that paper will likely be put off.

I also agree that it is strain dependent. In my heavy smoking days I was just buying off "the streets", and never really knew what it was in terms of indica/sativa percent, but definitely noticed a difference in motivation between "batches."

i know a friend of mine who is a heavy smoker who sleeps all day long doesnt want to go outside of home and smokes all day long got fired from is job and isnt willing to find another job.

Sounds like my ex-boyfriend. He took multiple naps a day, didn't wanna do anything unless he was stoned and didn't leave the house unless it was to reup. Some people just shouldn't smoke weed.

First of all, it depands on the strain a lot. Some strains will glue me on my chair/couch, while some other strains will motivate me to do homeworks, clean my room, and other tasks like that.

Also, the amount you smoke has a role to play on the effect on motivation. If I smoke an heavy amount, regardless which strain I smoke, chances are I wont do what can be done later. I actually tried doing a philosophy work after smoking a HUGE bowl and I just couldn't concentrate on it. I did several homeworks high tho, even complicated ones like chemestry and math. The key is to smoke moderately if you want to be effective after.

Besides that...I don't think smoking decreases overall motivation (when sober).

I think potheads who have no motivation had motivation troubles before smoking. Weed simply intensifies your feelings. If you don't feel like doing an homework before smoking, you won't feel like doing it after. That's for sure.

This thread brings up a good question - Does weed make people lazy, or do lazy people smoke weed? I'm sure the answer is somewhere in between, but one must be more prevalent. Then you have your extraneous outliers, the people who can't do anything withought being high.

Of course, you could insert anything into that equation: Does heroin make people lazy, or do lazy people do heroin? Does overeating make people lazy, or do lazy people overeat?

For now, I'll just say that there is certainly a correlation between smoking bud and being "unmotivated" to perform "productive" activities. Videogames are another story; I can do nothing but smoke and play games for hours and won't stop unless it's for something really important, like eating.

While I'd like to come in here and say "no of course not!" I'd be totally lying. I love getting stoned before things I'm planning to do, especially cleaning or a trip somewhere, BUT I find myself spending many hours on the internet, on BL, and doing what I feel is just wasting time. There are several things I should be doing even in my downtime due to my current place in life, and I use weed as an excuse not to do them, and the feelings from weed reinforce that TV and internet time are better ways, I also use mental health issues as an excuse.

I agree its strain dependent...some of the heavy ones just totally knock me on my ass, and I end up not doing important planned things like grocery shopping that I won't have the time to go for a while if I don't go then. That's rare at this point though, when I encounter one of those I try to find something less stoning and just use the heavier ones for night time hanging out in bed when I just wanna get really high...and waste time on the internet. At least I'm always learning something knew, since weed motivates me to read everything and anything I can find online, but my reading of books IRL has suffered because of weed and my addiction to the internet when it's available (I never use it on my phone although its unlimited and I have a blackberry) and I'm really embarrassed to admit that, but no better place but here.
