Does the style of animation affect how you like a (cartoon) show?

Agree with Banquo...Animation style has little effect on how I feel about a cartoon.I dont really care as long as I like the cartoon period.
At first I was bothered with the stuff coming out of Cartoon Network ....think Powerpuff Girl type animation....but it grew on me. I'll only watch my true faves...PPG, Dexters Lab %) , Courage, and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.

And I love ALL Disney/Pixar cartoons, old and new...so there :p

The only thing I really dont like is anime...lol....yeah I may have a few old faves (think TOEI, Akira, etc) But when I see anime cartoons on tV i immediately turn the channel.
 
i like invader zim.

i like it because the animation is not only the logical extension of the 'harderfasterbrighterlouder' tendency that lacey identified in the original post, but it's also subtle, clever, complex and unique. i'm not schooled in the intricacies of stylistic animation etc., but the show strikes a chord not because of its manic-ness, but because the visual energy is integrated within the overall 'feel' of the cartoon. it maintains similar themes; purples and pinks are the predominant colourings, the mechanical sequences are incredibly detailed and clever, and the movement of objects and sense of dimension and scale is beautifully handled, and it's not afraid to indulge in little in-jokes with its viewers. it clearly draws visual inspiration from a number of different genres but has a really distinct feel.

but above all, it remains a fantasy, which is kinda what i want from a cartoon. it's personal preference i suppose; i like 'classical' animation but i find it far less interesting, because what i seek from a cartoon is escapism, the improbable, the unknown... and so i would prefer something less representational.

I always liked that show, my little sister was into it but when i was much younger like 12-13 i was into underground comics and i read Johnny the Homicidal maniac...i was always a huge fan of johnen vasquez's style of drawing and to see it in the cartoon, definately toned down and not as dark or detailed, but still 100% unique is damn cool...

Tight work on bringing that up...:)
 
Animation doesn't mean too much, I like a ton of poorly animated shows like southpark, dr. catz, ect. The characters are what make or break it for me.
 
i loved the animation of Downtown...but the characters and plot and general vibe of that show was awsome as well...
