Does prayer work?

lol @ how the religious people in here try to argue that prayer will work when "your prayers are in God's will" i.e. prayers work when what you prayed for would have happened anyway; great insight;

Prayer is a connection time, inviting the Holy Spirit to speak to your soul, helping you sync your thoughts and plans with God's will.

I don't really believe in prayer other than as a form of self-reflection/therapy. If every prayer was answered then where would we be? Like in that Jim Carrey movie.. ah what was it called.. Bruce Almighty.

I do, however believe that our thoughts create our reality. I've been reading a lot of interesting stuff about this lately and it makes sense, we have several thousand thoughts each day and they determine who we become, so why should they not determine what kind of life we lead and what kind of energy we attract to ourselves? but prayers.. nah... in the end it's all up to us, each human being is in a sense alone and we have to take responsibility for our own actions and our own lives, as hard as it may be.

well how big of you, you see a point you disagree with and stop reading! Why stop there lets burn that post (and any books like it)

Congratulations it sounds like your well on your way to becoming 'A TRUE BELIEVER'

The article might have value of some sort, but if the author can't be bothered to take a moment and check his "facts" then I can't be bothered to read his article.

Seems fair to me.

Coincidently, that's also why I don't read or watch anything by Michael Moore.

poor michael, ye I don't really know what to make of him. He seems a bit out there, but those that mainly knock him seem to have a rather vested interest most the time? don't know?

If the author of an article in Rolling Stone started off by mentioning that Bohemian Rhapsody was written for Wayne's World, what conclusions would you draw concerning his credentials?

Does prayer work?

Yes, on a psychological level. The sad thing is that overtime humans have taken concepts of religion and god far too literally, and they've wasted their energy conflicting instead of helping eachother. All religions draw power from the same source, the human mind. I just wish people would give themselves credit when they accomplish something, instead of crediting god. Of course, the same people will blame themselves whenever something bad happens, because they're "evil sinners". One day, humans will realize the truth and start working together and using their energy productively.

Anyone who studies Psychology already knows this.

My answer to "Does prayer work?" is yes, depending on what you pray for.

that is, like so much christian dogma, deliberately vague so that it can be interpreted according to one's desired outcome.

if prayer works, prayer rocks! if not, the person praying is at fault for not praying the shit out of that prayer properly...

did you ignore my subsequent posts or miss my point entirely?

ay does anyone remember what verse goes something like this "when you pray to the lord he opens a door" or something, not the "when you ask you receive" verse though. i might just be thinking of something someone told me though.

as for a prayer testemony, yes prayer works in my experience. it has saved me from drug addictions, injuries, violence, prison, death and many other occurences which are hard to go into detail about. ofcourse if you arent a believer it's easy to catorgorise them as coincidences or whatever or as my friends would say that I'm the luckiest person alive, but not so easy for me due to the tremendous magnitude of some of these situations and my faith.
