Does oxy affect GABA

I noticed something when I did oxy last time and i realized how similar the buzz is to benzos. Does anybody else get this, only difference is that the oxy gives it more 'vibration' or 'fuzziness' but damn i hate the motor loss i get on both. Benzos do it the most but oxy is really bad with motor skills also you get space distortions and lightly nauseas. Oh and another thing does anybody elese here actually preffer lighter opiates like codeine or hydro compared to stronger ones like oxy? My favourite is mixing codeine with weed, about 30mg of codeine with some nice kind. Anyway to the question, does it affect GABA??

p.s oxy is fucking addictive
 
No oxy does not touch GABA levels as far as I know. most Benzo's are a skeletal muscle relaxant so thats what causes your loss of motor control, with Oxycodone it depresses your CNS as well but it doesnt target the skeletal muscles. I assume you did mean Oxycodone in your thread.
 
Oxy being an opioid will affect your Endorphin receptors not your Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) receptors.
Benzo's by the way do affect your GABA receptor, as does booze, but booze also makes your brain release Endophin.

If you plan on driving on oxy please DON"T. The few times i shamely did it i was on pretty high doses and basically could not see at all. My eyes would seriously not uncross8(. But no it doesnt affect your GABA so don't be silly child.
 
The muscle relaxation of benzodiazepines is primarilly due to the inhibition of GABAnergic nuerons in the cerrebelum, brain stem, and spinal chord.

Oxycodone produces respiratory depression by direct action on brain stem respiratory centers. The respiratory depression involves a reduction in the responsiveness of the brain stem respiratory centers to increases in carbon dioxide tension and to electrical stimulation. Perhaps this reduction of responsiveness is also associated with some motor skill loss.

Oxycodone causes a reduction in motility associated with an increase in smooth muscle tone in the antrum of the stomach and duodenum. Digestion of food in the small intestine is delayed and propulsive contractions are decreased. Propulsive peristaltic waves in the colon are decreased, while tone may be increased to the point of spasm resulting in constipation. Other opioid-induced effects may include a reduction in gastric, biliary and pancreatic secretions, spasm of sphincter, and elevations in serum amylase.

However, neither of these reactions involves GABA nuerons. The effects are similar, but no evidence has been found (or at least I haven't been able to find it) to implicate GABA in it's action.

Similarity of location of action may have a large amount to due with the subjective feelings you are expieriencing.

Opiate receptor binding does a number of things, but overall enhances GABA binding to many areas of the brain....

Benzos do not work on GABA receptors, but on specific benzodiazapine receptors, which, like opiates, enhance GABA binding.. (just in different areas of the brain and more potently)..

Drugs that actually bind to GABA receptors include GHB and EtOH( drinkin' alcohol).
