Its not only one of the most common psychedelics (if not the one easiest obtainable, considering legal research chemicals found online), but also revered as the most common favorite, as proven by the 'favorite psychedelic' poll here on PD.
Something like mescaline is as an experience probably rated higher than LSD but is far to uncommon to get a high average ranking. This skewing is seen a lot in rankings: popularity is directly dependent on prevalence.
I forgot where I read this but a nice quote is 'LSD is the standard against which all other psychedelics are measured'.
It has a very all-round or complete effect and is also especially rich pharmacologically speaking i.e. unspecific or non-selective yet considering the dose and mechanism of action the peripheral effects are negligible.
It's also very practical to ingest... so the list goes on why LSD is often chosen as an epitome.
Some see 25C-NBOMe as being even more ideal when compared on all points. It's also super-potent but the effects are apparently more purely psychedelic, more selective and it seems very enjoyable. But, obviously it is a pretty novel one and LSD has established and proven itself historically. Mushrooms and ayahuasca are the major other ones that come to mind that have a significantly longer history of use and also rank very high.
Of course I cannot answer the question for the OP why he chose acid, but just wanted to make a case for why it's not strange at all IMO.
