Opioids Does heroin degrade?

I had some tar heroin that I cut with a few DPH pills to make it snortable in a plastic bag for like a month and a half or something.
When I first got it, snorting 20mg of the powder would get me pretty good and 40mg I would be almost nodding. I kept my use to once a week as I always have with opiates and the last couple times I did the heroin 40mg had barely any effect.
At first I thought my tolerance had somehow gone way up but 5 days after my last heroin experience I took my usual does of hydro (30 mg) and got just as high if not higher then I always do.

So my question is: is it possible the heroin I had degraded sitting in that plastic bag for that long? Because it appears it was definitely not a tolerance issue.

itll degrade slowly. like really slowly. it would take years im sure. faster in water. but ive kept large batches for months and its been just fine so i dunno what the issue was.

maybe if its a new batch someones been greedy and steppin on it to pay for their exorbitant junk habit = more likely.

What conditions did you store it in?

If you are saying the same batch had significantly diminished effects, the most likely reasons (if you stored it properly) are that your tolerance went up and/or other factors in your set and setting including other drugs in your system, how much you've slept or dozens of other factors that could alone or in combination affect how much you feel/perceive the effects.

It really shouldn't "degrade" at least not for a very long time..even if it wasn't stored that tightly, a month is nothing. I've found old bags of H from benders I'd been on a year before and they still worked just fine..hah. It's pretty resilient shit. The only time I've heard it degrading is if turned into liquid and left in a solution, then it starts to turn into morphine.

^ more so 6-monoacetylmorphine than morphine, but it will slowly hydrolyze if left in a solution which is why when it's used pharmaceutically, the ampoules contain a dry powder you add water to prior to using.

As long as you didn't store it in extreme heat or anything, as others have attested, I can't imagine it degrading appreciably within a month which is why other factors seem exponentially more likely.

It's pretty weird then because I was doing it every week and all of a sudden the last two times I did it it was exponentially weaker.

Naturally I figured my tolerance went up but 5 days after the last incident like I said I took 30mg of hydro and it was as strong as ever, much stronger than the heroin.

I had been keeping it in a bag a cabinet, no extreme heat as far as I know

I was thinking maybe it could have been something to do with the way I was snorting it but my friend doing it with me experienced the same diminishing effects as me, so I don't know what to think.

My tolerance is definitely not the issue and it was done in the same set/setting as every other time, so I'm interested what other possible causes you guys could come up with. Keep in mind it was tar that had been mixed with crushed up DPH pills to make a powder, not sure if that affects it somehow.

i think mixing the tar with water is necessary before snorting it, but maybe im wrong, ive never had tar

^ that's called waterlining but you can mix it with powders to make it suitable for insufflation as well.

Heat, light, and oxygen are the killers of potency for most all drugs and chemicals. So storing in such a way to minimze exposure to all 3 the best you can is best in general to preserve the potency of most drugs and chemicals as a rule of thumb. Not sure with H but would assume so but would do my own independent reserach if I was trying to store this substance (something I am NOT capable of doign lol).

Your tolerance probably went up lol. Sorry my friend but opiate tolerance is a battle i ( and many of us here) know all to well. When i started snorting dope one bag would get me rocked . Within a month just using about two or three times a week i needed 6 or 7

Wow i didnt read your entire post and now look like an asshole because u clearly stated it is not tolerance lol. Idk man that suckss tho maybe because U cut the dope it catalyzed the reaction to degrade the heroin much faster than usual idk its a logical explanation i would check interactions between dph and heroin if i were you

I have had a bun I found in the back of a cabinet in my closet that was there for atleast a year..and it seemed as good as day 1. Of course I didn't have anything to compare it to.. but if there is any degregation it's extremly slow.

IMO I would say either it is your tolerance. Even though you only use once a week that is enough to develop a tolerance even if there is no dependency.

I think that goes for any drug.. if you take one 2mg xanax bar every friday for a year, I will guarantee you that by teh end of that year the xanax bar has nowhere near the effect it did your first week.

If you were using heroin once a month you would avoid the tolerance thing.. but once a week it is an issue. I am not saying you can or will develop dependency but that's a while seperate matter.
