ok ive been using dilaudids recently, and i save up the cottons for cotton shots when i run out, but for the last 3 cotton shots, after i prep the solution on the spoon, i put heat to it just until it starts to boil to kill the bacteria, and while i'll take the shot and be good for an hour, when i come down from it i start shivering uncontrollably and so bad that it hurts, and i get a blinding headache, i usually have to sleep it off at that point and i know the shivering that bad is not just regular opiate withdrawal.

So does boiling the water kill the bacteria? should i make sure it all comes to a complete boil instead of just starting to boil? and also wont boiling the water completely destroy the hydromorphone?

Not too sure on this myself, but I think cotton fever is at least partially caused by tiny bits of cotton going into bloodstream, and that causing havoc with your immune system etc.

^ I'm not entirely sure either nAON, you could be right, but the sympotoms of cotton fever also sounds very much like transient bacteraemia to me (temporary shower of bacteria in the bloodstream) - either way though, heating them to near-boiling won't work. It needs to be above 120 degrees for 15 minutes to sterilise it - wikipedia says at least 15 minutes at 121 °C (250 °F) or 3 minutes at 134 °C (273 °F) - so just heating them for a bit won't kill all the bacteria. Infact bacteria tend to grow faster in hot water! Heating them to boiling point (not just below) will kill some bacteria but not all.

Reusing cottons is bad news - the fact that you always get sick off them isn't good; its not worth the risk IMO..

^ following on from what effie said, when you're getting to those sort of temperatures and timescales, any drug that's left in there will probably be destroyed or decomposed.

So not really sure what to suggest for you.. maybe try sucking or eating the old cottons? Won't give you much of a rush, but could certainly tide you over if things are getting rough.

^ oh yeah good call nAON, forgot to address that part!!

You could use an autoclave, but if you had the money for an autoclave, you wouldn't have to reuse cottons.

Or an All American pressure cooker. 45 minutes at 15 PSI should do the trick.

Or maybe just throw the cottons in the garbage can and tie it off so the cat doesn't get into it.

I have boiled my h cottons before and it worked. i never boiled my dilaudid cottons because they didnt seem that dirty (yuck- i was disgusting). i never got cotton fever with either of the above.

Boiling the cotton causes cotton fever. If you boil the water with cotton in it wait for it to cool before shooting.
