Does benzo tolerance ever truly go down?

i have never had a script for them myself but have abused them sometimes but no more then once a week but at times taking up to 8mg of xanax, i know you dont have to say it. but people told me once you develop tolerance it never goes down at least not much. any truth to this?

yes, the tolerance for benzo dependency will not diminish unless one tapers, and/or quits and waits for sometime. it's the most difficult drug to reduce. i've had to do it before with seizure medication.

i dont neccesarily mean being dependent on it, i mean as a recreational user say if i need 5mg to get high if i took a long break would 2mg do what 5mg does now?

If you took a long break I would say 2 mg would probably equate what you need now approximately. Who knows, you may even be okay with 1 mg.

The memory of it may not be the same, but indeed … as a recreational intermittent user I would say so. When I relapsed on opiates, I needed 'a lot' less than I was using to have similar effects. A month in-between use too.

For a long time I took 4-5 mg of either clonazepam or alprazolam, or both totaling 4-5 mg for maintenance (to feel normal). I was able to taper and quit and didn't take any benzos for over a year. I tried xanax again last month and 1 mg was too much. I could barely keep my eyelids open.
