Benzos Does anyone still like Lorazepam as a benzo? (Ativan)

I can't believe that chart has lorazepam and chlordiazepoxide as sedating benzos but not alprazolam. Also, "hangover" and "confusion" are given as side effects for some of the benzos but not others (like alprazolam)...

I'd take the information on this chart with a grain of salt.

"anxiolytic" and "hypnotic" are poor ways to divide the benzo classes. Reason being, most of the hypnotics I have used are the best anxiolytics. The worst/more basic anxiolytics have little/no hypnotic properties. Just a trend I've noticed, not 100% for sure about every benzo (I have only tried....8 thus far).

^I agree with this. I was just criticizing the chart for selectively applying the terms. I think we'll be hard-pressed to find someone who would agree that chlordiazepoxide is more sedating than alprazolam! ;)

Well put vonchampz! I liked lorazepam for this very reason, using it to relax myself to study for a 6 hour class is very, very effective. I think lorazepam is a better benzo for the day time to be honest.

Damn I don't know how you can study on benzos. Shit fogs me up like no other.

mr benzo

to answer your question in one way, i'd say it would come down to a matter of preference. the factor which can throw some variable into the equation is tolerance. to someone with none, ativan would rock yer world, depending on dose size. i would compare it in a way with valium...if your used to benzos, it's not gonna do shit unless u take a shitpile. for instance, i take 6mg of xanax a day, and i took an ativan(highest mg) last week and felt absolutely NOTHING. years ago, if i took the same amount, i would be shitfaced. it's definately worth having(people would pay good money 4 that @ here)but once u get to xanax, and a high dose to go along, the lesser benzos are worthless. small tolerance tho, hell yea it's a keeper. if your prescribed this med, consider yourself lucky, so many people i know can't even get the weakest benzo from a-hole docs. try to hold off on taking it and save for special occasions, keeping the tolerance low and assuring a nice buzz. peace to ya, medicinal marge8o

i take that stuff when im having a nervous breakdown or when i cant sleep because my mind is racing to fast

i dont use benzos recreationally

used to LOVE ativan. but i am over it. ill do it if a friend offers or whatever, but my connect and i dont talk and its not worth going out of my way for. rather do Vallium or Xanax but i only do benzos to add to opiates, alcohol, nervous situations and sleep. I'm not the type who eats 5 bars to get high and act retarded.

LOL Yeah I think no people would say that. I can't imagine why they'd do it like that.

You have to keep in mind a few things...

  1. I use buprenorphine, IV'd about every 3-4 hours on average.
  2. These classes were 6 hours long, monday through saturday.
  3. I would take 0.5mg to 1mg lorazepam in the middle of the class, when I would typically start feeling ancy. Sitting still for 3 hours at a time is a hard thing to accomplish, especially when you have to do another 3 hours of sitting still after a 20 minute break.
  4. Lorazepam is the least sedating benzodiazepine I have ever tried, which is why I like it specifically for doing school work/studying on.

Alprazolam (xanax)= number 1 all da way, i.m.o.

You probably haven't tried a lot of benzos. Xanax is in the middle of my benzo preference ranking list.

That's a good way to put it. Some drugs aren't as effective if you have a tolerance to the class of drugs in general. If you were to take the equivalent of 6mg of alprazolam of any kind of benzo every day, I am sure any other benzos (in a regular dose) are going to be not as effective.

This is why benzos, ideally, should be taken for a short period of time, or not every day.

Yeah, I've noticed this phenomenon around Ativan. For some people it works great, but for me it does almost nothing I tried it for quick onset anxiety attacks, but the dosage I would have to take in order to quell my attacks was far higher than I'd want to depend on on a regular basis. Clonazapam, however, does that job perfectly at a reasonably low dose (.5)

However, a have 3 friends who swear by ativan for anxiety but get nothing from Clonazepam. I should add here that none of us uses benzos for recreational effects. It's def. non-recreational medicine.

I do use Xanax for sleep and have been doing so for almost 1 years at a very low dosage (.5 - .75 - 1mg, depending on where I'm at). It's worked phenomenally for me and at my dosage I have little trouble taking breaks. My current shrink (and he's probably the best meds guy I've seen out of maybe 4 or 5) says that it's critical to keep your dosage under 1mg if you're going to be taking it over an extended period of time.

dude i started with 1mg now im on .5mg so i can sleep if i could give any advice it would be stay away from this shit................ weed is the only med u should need

I'm taking 2,5 x 4 times a day, can't feel absolutely no nice effects, if IV injected I can feel something but the liquid fuck up your veins just with 2 injections FOR REAL.

^I hope you are using appropriate liquids to inject it because that drug is not water soluble. Search around for more information and check out the Micron Filtering Mega Thread and FAQ for more information on how to reduce the harm associated with shooting pills.

Thanks Cane, you're 100% right.

Lorazepam is pretty insoluble in water alone, I would hope you know how to mix sterile water with propylene glycol, and I would also hope you would use a micron filter.

Most benzodiazepines are stellar by their own ROA (typically not IV). The only two benzos I can think of with an oral BA lower than 80+% would be triazolam and midazolam. But they both can be consumed easily without being IV'd and they are both still effective that way (triazolam I would take sublingually, midazolam orally if I didn't micron filter it for IV).

I only used ativan once, I enjoyed the experience. I found it to be more sedating than diazepam and probaby a little less so than alprazolam. I have not used it therapeutically so this is one thing I can not comment on.
