Mescaline has the same reputation for enlightenment that LSD and DMT do, while an RC tryptamine like 4-aco-dmt is more inherently recreational like 2c-b.
From my point of view, this statement really shows that culture and cultural perception are a *huge* reason why things gain a perception for enlightenment. From my experience, 4-ACO-DMT is just as powerful as mushrooms, actually better from my point of view because the nausea is reduced, the ride tends to be smoother and gentler (less chaos), and the exact dosage is measurable. They both are quite powerful at enlightenment in my experience.
However, it's an "RC", and RCs have a shitty reputation in many corners. Probably because of the poor miss-to-hit ratio, and the industry's profit orientation means that shitty addictive stims are what's in vogue and what people think of when "RC" is mentioned. A pity, really.
I consider one of my top enlightenment experiences to be a so-called third plateau DXM experience. Because its "legal", however, it has a shit reputation, something like it being the drug that the uncool kids who can't get drugs do to get fucked up. Which is probably true for most DXM users. Their loss, right?
Most drugs that have a more mystic aura *were* used in a more mystic manner by cultures for centuries -- that certainly counts for mushrooms, DMT, and mescaline. LSD's one of the few that got the aura without the historical context, and that's probably due to early advocacy from some heavies on the intellectual and art circuits. Along comes the war on drugs, and now the perception of most new chemicals is that they only exist to get people fucked up. There's nothing wrong with simply getting fucked up on a chemical, of course. But in that respect I certainly can see the OP's point, in some ways it seems such a waste.
