I am starting this thread to find out others opinions on when it is NOT a good time to take opiates.

I am interested as I find opiates are good in all situations, and find it hard to think of a time when it would not be a good idea to use opiates.

I take opiates to improve my mood, to help me think clearly, and to make my life generally more enjoyable.

I find the only time that opiates do not make my life better is in bed. I find I cannot achieve orgasm, however I do get the ability to make love for hours on end... which has its benifits as well... apart from this, i cannot think of any other problems.

As far as I can tell, there is many more positives than negatives about opiate use, so feel free to add your opinions about when it is not a good time to take them.

Feel free to discuss any opiate here.

1. For more than two days in a row without two days off.........Addiction can occur quickly and by that I mean, a week of pills and two days of smoking H and I imagine far quicker for IV and snorting. I love the benefits, but having been a junkie now for almost five years I know this.....the addiction is a dirty whore.

If they could create an opiate that made you feel like oxy, but didn't have physical dependency issues, it would be the best antidepressant know to man. The funny offset of that is, they allude to a medication in Aldous Huxley's "A Brave New Word". It's called SOMA funny enough, but it makes everyone happy in their place in life, regardless of how shitty, meaningless, or hopeless.

Oh, and I agree 100% about the sex issue. If you haven't reached addiction yet, good and stay that way. I remember before I was an addict, I loved to have sex just because I felt so good while on opiates, but over time, you will find that you don't even want to have sex anymore once you take opiates too long.

Just my thoughts......

Problem

Opiates make the world (well, my world) a wonderful place. Any time is a good time w/ opiates.

Im not sure if this applies to everybody but if I go real slow and concentrate real hard, sex (up-to and including orgasm) can be a very good thing.

i really hate being bothered on opiates... being in any situation where I can't just chill in peace or with someone nodding as hard as I am is pretty much a reason for me to save the dose for another time.

im surprised no one has mentioned.. dont take opiates if you know you are going to have to drive or operate heavy machinery. i can think of a couple occasions when i was fighting to stay awake behind the wheel.. that shit is scary.

obviously some people do it (and live), but that would be a good time not to take opiates.

if you are trying to figure out the pros and cons of being addicted, just forget about it. yeah opiates are a great addition to life, but too easily one can get carried away.

this may will be a year since my last hit
but i still crave--- (ex-addict)

Haha agreed. Do not take heroic amounts of opiates before going on a 5 hour drive. That trip ended up taking me like 12 hours because I kept having to stop every 30 minutes to walk around so I could wake back up.

^^
that sounds awful. i don't drive, but as for machinery... the other night i kept nodding out while i was trying to operate my computer to post on bluelight. it was really frustrating- i'd lift my head up and realize i was still in the middle of posting and the next thing i know i'm coming out of it again and the message doesn't seem to be any longer. i don't know how long it actually took me to post it.
not that not being able to post on bluelight is a reason not to take opiates... the whole addiction thing is a much better motivater.

...the withdrawal process is the main reason. I feel like hell...freezing...super hot.. no energy...no will...wantung more...restless legs, pain, dirrhea, loss of money.....

I would had never got as far as I did knowing whatI know now, period.

I am lucky it was only hydrocodon as its one of the weaker opiates but still not fun withdrawing from.

I am staying with my parents now...withdrawing and gave them my meds..I can take 15mg at nigt only to aid in sleep from a habbit of 120mg a day. Its day two and I feel like pure ass.... had to take off from work for 7 days...

dont go this route..TRUST ME...

I agree with all of the negatives mentioned so far....but, just as a general thing....when you speak of opiates, and its positive effects...yes, it is true, but, oviously there is a big price to pay, and, for me at least, the price outweighs the positives BIG TIME..

Not only the obvious addiction aspect...but, no matter how well intentioned I am going into it, aside from developing physical dependence, it just causes me to think about it all the time...
it "steals" all of the time in a day for thinking, which I would normally be using for alot of really great acomplishments.
It is no longer a matter of simply taking the drug and feeling good, and removing depression... It now takes over my whole day...and it really pisses me off.

I have had 2 or 3 "bouts" with oxycontin. You know, crushed,,etc...the whole deal. They last about a month or two.

Then, I still have enough clarity,,not that much, but enough, to say...I'm outa here....
I am fortunate enough to have accumulated an arsenal of buprenex, so I dont have the fear of withdrawel in front of me...
stopping the drug, for me at least, has been totally painless......Buph is a Godsend...

as a matter of fact, I just finished a 6 week bout with oxy yesterday/today....
Took my last dose yesterday morning, waited 24+ hours, then felt a little weird, so I took the buph, and I actuall am feeling really good...

if opiates were just limited to the experience part while you were on the drug, that would great....but, no matter how well intentioned you are, for most people it slowly (or rapidly) starts crossing the line into bad territory.

On the plus side of buph , by the way, there some studies done at Harvard back in the 90's, about buph as an antidepressant. It seems to be a very good one...
All that plus an insurance policy preventing you from taking opiates, since it saturates the receptors so that that opiates have no effect.

Yes I can think of a couple of good reasons. Aside from their notorious addiction risk factor (which by the way all propaganda aside, my first use of narcotics to get high, 1 5mg percocet and another 1 5mg percocet followed after half hour of the first one, taken orally with no tolerence at all, I was psychologically addicted, from one try orally too). I now am on methadone, and trying to get off of it.

All opiates/opioids, methadone included cause urine retention. Which is why its hard to take a piss when you are high on them, and even harder to take a piss when the opioid/opiate is adultered with such chemicals as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Aspirin. In addition the adultered opiates/opioids like the ones with Tylenol in them cause liver damage, and the one with Aspirin with them case stomach damage leading to serious stomach problems like ulcers and other complications which cannot even be treated (as it was the case with Kurt Cobain). To give you an example of what this urine retention side effect can do (this is from much older patients at the methadone clinic I go to) in extreme cases like people who have been using for a long period of time need to use a cathedral (spelling???), a device that forces one to piss. I believe you put it up your ass and you piss out your ass.....i believe is how it works. You can also immagine the strain long term use puts on your kidneys as well. You don't want to be on dyalisis when your old.

All opiates/opioids cause constipation. Long term use causes serious complications. Sooner or later for a hard user or long term user hemmoroid is innevitable, and once you get hemmoroids you always have them basically. What happens is because for so many years and months a user might shit 2-3 times a week (while a normal person shits every day at least once a day) the shit comes out very thick and very hard causing your asshole to bleed, this has happend to me numerous times. What happens is the hard shit breaks the walls/blood vessels in your asshole and you bleed.
This is serious enough.....beside this complication another serious one is due to the constipation and as we all know it is healthy to shit (which is why we try to get as much fiber in our diets as we can) because we excrete the toxins and the waste products and byproducts from the foods we eat and our diets, just as urinating make you piss out a lot of toxins and byproducts that aren't healthy for our body. When you are constipated to the extent an opiate/opioid user/addict is that mean that all the toxic waste and byproducts and all those toxins found in our shit accumulate in our bodies, which means we accumulate more toxins and more toxic material for much longer than a normal person does.

There are other serious side effects as well, just I can't think of any and these that I mentioned are the most common and the ones I can easily think of.

I had to reply here because ever since I've been reading this board and its been about 6 years, the general idea is that opiates/opioids as long as they are pure and not adultered with Tylenol and Aspirin they are okay; that they are safe aside from the addiction factor. The idea that they are safe is from the notion that they don't case brain damage, heart damage, liver damage (though I'm sure they DO put stress on the liver if not damage, after all EVERYTHING passes through the liver), etc so if used properly and responsibly like once every week or two they would be okay. Well most of those people who are of that opinion haven't been hooked that long or haven't talked to people who have been hooked a long time on narcotics.

When the date is going well, and she invites you into the bedroom.

Unless of course you have a Viagra holster built into your boxers.

Basically there are several situations in which you might want to consider NOT doing opiates. The first is if you are prone to addiction or have been addicted to other drugs. While opiate dependency isn't bad for you physically, and doesn't cause any brain damage, psychologically it can destroy/consume you. Also, if you are prone to living life on the edge and find yourself taking really high doses of different drugs just to see what will happen, then you should stay the hell away from opiates. With certain opioids such as fentanyl and it's analogs the safety margin (especially for IM/IV use) is small.

If you wish to avoid addiction you should only take opiates occasionally for fun, once you start using them as an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety drug then you are much more likely to become addicted. If you don't care about addiction that is a different story, but you're still going to have to comedown eventually one way or another. Your tolerance will eventually raise to the point where you can no longer get the desired effects and you will eventually be unable to maintain your habit due to lack of money or even access to all the opiates you would need to get high.

Jim Jones may be an expert at the fade away (BALLIN'), but he also does a lot of drugs (BALLIN'!!!!!!). Jim thinks that your perspective on opiate use is ignoring the fact that opiates are dangerous as hell. Not that they'll kill you, but using any exogenous substance with the notion "hey it makes everything better" will lead you to disaster. Enjoy opiates, but enjoy them responsibly. DIP SET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^ but morphine is endogenous :p

as long as you keep yourself from becoming an addict, no i can't think of any reason not to do opioids
