I dont know how to eat good. Seems everything I like is bad for me. I barely ever eat fruits/veggies, and too much junk food ,burgers, pizza etc. I hate salads and stuff like that . when i go food shopping i have no idea what to get that isnt bad for me.
anyone else feel they may never eat good ?

I have a similar (yet different) problem. I unhealthily under-eat, yet I take many precautiouns to stay healthy such as taking multi-vitamins, foods with no fat, foods with high omega-3 content, and fruits which are high in vitamin C.

My suggestion to you is to compromise. Eat what you like at times, but be very mindful of your health, and excercise when you can. I do not know your age, but we tend to think we are invincible while we are in our '20s and '30s. The ill effects of unhealthy lifestyles become quite apparent, and relatively quickly when we get into our '50s.

You are in the right thread. The moderators here know what they are speaking of. That being said, I will stop rambling and leave the advice to the professionals.

Stay safe. We care about you.

I know this isn't what you want to hear....but you're gonna have to break the cycle, or you'll feel the consequences at one point or another. Your body needs fruits and veggies to work properly. You like junk food because it's designed to be tasty, it's full of salt and fat.

It can take time to get out of eating badly, but you'll feel the difference almost immediately, although you may have cravings for a few weeks. Think of it like smoking....being addicted to junk food is a lot like being addicted to smoking cigarettes.

You won't necessarily have to give up all the food you love, but you may have to for a period of time in order to un-addict yourself to this lifestyle.

Best of luck!!

Im trying to quit smoking and opiates too. Where do i start ?

I have never smoked, so I am not sure about that. I am an opium feind (clean for 6 weeks.... not by choice, just no supply).

Suboxone works wonders for many people. It may be worth a try, if you really want to quit.

Dig suboxone.com - as they have a list of doctors and locations.

Perhaps you just need to try new foods that are healthy. Explore grocery stores and do not confine yourself to what you usually buy.

sounds like you need to change a lot about your life. maybe going to a psychiatrist would be the best first step...

once your system is cleaner (both food and drugs wise) you'll notice the taste of fresh veggies more. celery, lettuce, carrots and tomatos are the most delicious things in existence to me. if i could, i'd live off of those alone.

this thread inspired me
right now i'm eating this deliciousness for dinner

I only tend to eat healthy when someone else prepares the food for me.

I know how to eat well, but for some reason I don't. I guess I'm just lazy.

actually what u eat is not as bad. considering vegetables n fruits have the most pesticides and other unmentioned chemicals sprayed all over them, ur doing pretty good.
there was information that most of what people consider health food actually has most unhealthy chemicals of all foods that are fried or whatever. like 50 chemicals just in apples alone !!!
anyway good luck switching to pesticide infected shit :(

only fruits or veggies i like are apples or brocoli. HATE lettuce and salads. I usually eat chicken , pasta, steak , burgers, etc...................and junk food............

what junk food ? i had few apples once and i felt sick and almost puked my guts out. i call that junk food.

^um yeah. i just responded to another thread this guy was in, pretty sure hes a troll...or just really fucked up.

healthy eating can be as simple as switching from prepared food (fast food) to natural ingredients. it forces you to learn to cook a few meals. rice, pasta, oats are all really easy to prepare. stir frys are easy and tasty. bean burritos are really easy and healthy too.

healthy eating can really help improve health and the opiate cigarette addictions (both of which i have dealt with). so if your not willing to really give these addictions up yet, at least the healthy eating can really help out.

you're crazy

I know how to eat healthily but I usually don't, just because I like junk food so much, and thanks to good genes, I've never had significant weight gain to motivate me to change my diet. I am conscious of it though and I do try to make some small changes - even if it is starting off by just eating one piece of fresh fruit a day. I also try and add vegetables to pasta sauces etc - things I wont really notice like grated carrot, but will hopefully be good for me.

Juices can be a good start - I don't think they are as good as eating a piece of fruit, but some of those fruit and vegie concoctions can be pretty delicious and have a serve of fruit and veg in them. Baked beans are also delish ;)

jake99 if you really want to eat healthy and be more healthy in general, then you're going to have to train yourself and make some changes.

Living on salad and veggies alone is also not healthy - if you're a meat eater then by all means keep eating your meat, just have a side dish of salad. Some salads can be delicious, i suggest you should google some tasty salad recipes and go from there.

Eat plenty of chicken and fish, and only red meat a couple times a week. You can do lots of fancy things with your meat ... if you're not trying to lose weight as such, make a nice chicken parma with a side of salad - yum!

You will be amazed at how quick you can actually get addicted to salad when you have it as a side dish with some yummy steaks etc. Salad rocks! And i am a person who used to HATE it. I trained myself though :) Now i swear by it.

Also make changes like, instead of chips with your meal, have some mash potato! Or roasted. Also with steamed veggies. It's not actually that hard to eat good, the only hard part is the preparation and even that isn't hard. It just takes a little discipline and motivation. It's certainly worth it once the effects of eating good set in and you realise how much better you feel.
