I find when I'm high on any kind of opiate, that I startle really easily. Like when I used to have a roommate and he would open the front door suddenly while I was nodding I would jerk awake, have the pull in the stomach, sudden awareness etc. Just wondering if this happens to anybody else...

Yes & No. Typically depending on the opiate &/or other psychoactive drugs taken (as well dose), seems to determine if I 'startle' easy or not. I remember when I first started using Dope (~10 yrs ago), I would startle easily while high/nodding. Not so sure that's still the case. :|

Oh boy…. my ex got this all the time. She'd get to the point where she would start crying because she got so frightened.

OD -> BDD

cause this is kind of a basic question ;) Opioids do have a tendency to make people irritable if you interrupt their daydreaming. I think this is well established.

Yes, all the time. When on Norco I get very jumpy from things. Even if my phone rings I think my heart rate will double. I do not seem to have this issue with other opiates just the Hydrocodone. Oxy, Roxy, Opana do not cause this just when I take Norco (10/325 Hydrocodone) I usually take about 150 mg at a time. I have three dogs and they will startle or bark and I almost jump out of my skin!

I just filled my Norco script today and have not taken any yet because it does cause this stress. The whole idea is how calm and relaxed I feel from them and then it gets ruined from being startled.

This happens to me sometimes.
If I am in a stressful situation or probably even any situation where the nod would be noticed by someone I would not want to notice I "scare" myself. Maybe scared isn't enough to describe it properly. Several times I have come back from the nod to a loud BANG which is me hitting the keyboard with something, my hand I think, and I am a little confused for a few milliseconds, and then agitated because I shouldn't have been nodding by that point.
When there is not any stress and I am alone or with cool people I enjoy the nod, it is encouraged, played with like a toy, and I do everything to manipulate it sometimes. Less stress always means enjoyable nods,higher stress for me are scary, agitating, frustrating, and difficult to stop once you hit that zone. I can get them the day after dosing if I sit still and concentrate on one thing while allowing my mind to wonder. No, I'm not falling asleep hah, I know the difference. 15 - 17, 18 hours after my dose I can get strong nods that put me out. I have tried hitting this point with caffeine, and a couple of other things which are stronger and that is not the solution, at least those things were not.

On Topic: I have scared myself "waking up" / "returning" from a nod from physically hitting or bumping things and making loud noises. But I do not think I am more prone to being scared. I am more prone to handle situations and get things cleared up one way or another though, heh.

Shit no.You could tell me the house was on fire.Hell,you could tell me I was on fire and I wouldn't give a shit.I'd probably tell you to leave me alone and I'll handle it later because you're harshing my buzz.
