Some people think they know so much about illegal drugs, and swear as if this place is a valid sorce of information.
Who here thinks that doing research on bluelight is a valid form of research when it comes to learning about drugs.
I sure don't

yes and no
no, this place does have it's share of misinformation, but
yes, if u want to talk to people about thier experience with something that you want to try you can better gauge how you'll react to it better.
but for just general info erowid or lyceum(sp) is the best area to research.

As far as specific information about drugs, Bluelight is more like the quick answer source. No, of course it's not detailed. Some of the information given by people is wrong. But you're getting firsthand accounts from people who use the drugs, so the information you get is much much much more practical in a lot of cases than simply reading the "facts".
But it would definantly be foolish for someone to use Bluelight as their only source. That's why Erowid and Lycaeum are around.

I would say its a great Research Tool - Exp if you ask a specific answer and get a "majority rules" response. Just like with any source, weight the quality and content of your source for validity... BL's Great for learning.

in addition to what fairnymph said I find BL most useful as a reference - that is, if I'm looking for info, someone on BL is almost guaranteed to point me in the right direction.
Then again, i mostly post in OD so I don't know much about other areas.

BL is an excellent resource for information concerning the sociology of drugs. For instance it is possible to see which drugs are particularly popular + which drugs one wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Say I was 'researching' the potential marketability of nutmeg XTC I would quickly learn that this would be a commercial flop for which I would probably get sewed and discover that pure DXM cough capsules would be much more profitable even though I have never tried the compounds in doses necessary to trip. There are plenty more examples I could pluck out of the air but i wont bother.

I understand stand what you people are saying but when it comes to a specific question, for example, is meth physically addictive? Now people will tell you what they know from experience and from what they have heard from friends, but has any body ever looked it up in a book about narcotics or asked some person who has done a study on the matter.
Another thing I don't like is how BLerts thing we are so elite because they blue light and think they know so much about drugs. I think by thinking that it makes them even more ignorant.
The simple solution to the problem I see, is if some ask a specific question about a drug and how it works, not about how to take it or what is it like, sources for this information should be shown. Erowid will only show so much and I have seen conflicting things on Erowid.
So how about showing some sources and if it is an opinion about the question let the person know, DON'T LEAD HIM TO BELIVE THAT WHAT YOU ARE TELLING HIM IS A FACT.

Now i havent posted here for a long long time, hell i think most of my posts arent even here anymore but this thread made me break my silence.
BL is not a bad place for drug information in that there are people here who are fully capable of directing someone on drug usage, however that is not all of you. In fact it is a small percentage and has been for a long time, and there is no good way to warn anyone reading here that the information is correct or incorrect from person to person. The greenlighter system does not work and i liken it to seniors stuffing freshmen into lockers more than a measure of intelligence or maturity.
The only real way to watch out for yourself is to get many peoples opinions, and take notice of who can prove what they say, and also take notice of those who cant explain what they are saying to you, someone who doesnt understand what there discussing is in no position to then counsel someone else.
I remember when i used to post here a lot i had to correct a lot of people and it caused conflict frequently. There were a lot of total idiots around then and i bet there still are, the most dangerous ones are people who have no clue what there talking about and suggest dosages for pharmaceuticals based on what there "boy" takes and gets fucked up on. Most pharmaceutical dosages can be found in medical literature and list the amounts which would cause overdose based on KG body weight. Suggesting combinations of drugs which would go well is also where the idiots come out and show there true ignorance with things like GHB and alcohol, benzos and opiates in high doses, ephedrine with other stims etc..
Im usually available on AIM or IRC if anyone needs help.

If someone aaks for a source they are probably going to get a warning, if somebody gives a source then they are probably going to get banned. All you are doing at the moment is stating the obvious so I dont know how we are going to perk this conversation up or else it's going pass by completely ignored. Ofcourse OD's is about opinions, that's why people come here (to share them). You have to take everything in this place with a pinch of salt though. When The Trip Doctor says fentanyl & xtc is the most wonderful combination I know I can believe him whereas when I am informed that half a bottle of OTC cough syrup is most probably fatal I know they probably dont belong here. What you are saying in short is NOTHING so lets get back to the main theme and ignore these empty threads.

hey... your comments assume a level of awareness that i imagine a lot of folks don't have. also, i think you've proven that he's saying SOMETHING. maybe you know what to believe and what to ignore, but i bet there are a lot of people who DON'T know who to believe or whose messages to accept or take with a pinch of salt.
i'm going to digress here.... does anyone else think that drug responsibility is genetic? (by drug responsibility i mean the ability to do drugs without having the drugs do you... w/out having them take over.) for example, i have a friend who is very "successful," i.e., she has a masters in public health, is going to a top 25 law school, is super-smart and ambitious etc. one of her brothers is equally "successful." he's an engineer. her other brother, however, is a recovering addict, high school dropout, and generally a thug. her parents raised 2 of the 3 children to be responsible, etc. but the third is totally fucked up. Smells like genetics to me.
Just throwing it out there.

Once you start reading the boards more and more often, and become more familiar with the people on it then you can pick and choose who you can really trust. I mean there are some people on this board that just plain out know their shit. When I see a post and I'm looking for the answer sometimes I just skip down to what one of the mods has to say because chances are he knows what he is talking about.

What I get out of Bluelight is the push to find out what I really want to know. Going on Bluelight causes me to realize the questions that I never knew I wanted to ask. Then, I got find out about them however I can (Erowid, CDL, Hive, etc...). Especially the ones that I see every day, aka New to XTC... now, we won't know for a while if the dancesafe.org slide show is TRULY correct, but I still think as of right now I can pretty much recite it slide for slide...
Plus, it adds the added (good) spin of real-world experience... sure, in the lab the LD50 of blah is such-and-such, but lord knows someone out there has put twice that much up their nose or in a vein and loved every damn minute of it. It just helps you see what is out there, not just in regards to yourself, but in regards to the (small percentage of educated, computer-literate, willing-to-be-informed, Internet savvy, harm-reducing) real world.

I use it as more of a passive research tool. I find that it is very gradually raising my knowledge of all sorts of drugs. As someone else said, there are some bluelighters i am much more likely to listen to than others :) .

I do the same thing alot. Whether it be a mod, or just a bluelighter that always makes intelligent posts, and I trust their opinion.

man, this discussion could go on forever... so i really am not going to put my opinion in, sorry.
just a bit of advice...
jd, open your mind.

Like Tripdoc, its been a long time since I've piped up in this forum. Anyhow, I used to be a regular here, and I definatly think that a ton of good information can be found around this board, this forum in particular. It requires weeding through a lot of crap, but after a while you definatly figure out who knows their shit and who doesn't.
I've started to move away from OD, but I still stop by once in a while. Again, if anyone ever needs any help I'm available too, and online all the time. My particular areas of specialty lie in Opiates, marijuana, some psychedelics (mushrooms especially), and MDMA.
Good luck, especially to those of you who are new here. Be safe, don't do dumb shit, and have fun . ;)

Hey Cupid,
My mind has opened that is why I am asking these questions.
I know some people know their shit, or so they claim, but where did they learn it, who knows, how do you know if it is the truth. If you have gone to med school and know these things for a fact. Less than 1% have.
But I have had arguments with friends about weather meth is addictive; his only argument was, because blue light said so.
Then he called me stupid.
