hey team, I know it's 1am but I just noticed that the documentary the meth epidemic is on SBS in 5 minutes. Tune in if you guys are up.

Thread can be closed just thought I'd let people know.

swear I was guna finally buy a coax ant cable today.

"you won't need it tonight he said, just get it tomorrow he said"

so typical.

fantastic! thanks bud, shall check it out once my mobile month resets.

how does it rank against Four Corners 'The Ice Age'?

it's american and i've only watched 5 mins of 51 mins so i dunno :)

What started as a fad among West Coast motorcycle gangs in the 1970s has spread across the United States, and despite lawmakers' calls for action, the drug methamphetamine is now more potent, and more destructive, than at any time in the past decade. This update of an earlier program investigates the meth rampage in America: the appalling impact on individuals, families and communities, and the difficulty of controlling an essential ingredient in meth, sold legally in over-the-counter cold remedies. (From the US) (Documentary) (Rpt) PG CC

It's pretty interesting, I hadn't seen it before.

im 30 mins thru it, it shows how the early US/Mex cartels were sourcing huge amounts of ephedrine from Indian chemical companies, and how when the dea found out and stopped that, the purity and use of meth dropped, they had a huge spike around 1993-95 when there was massive amounts of tonnes of ephedrine being imported into the US and to Mex for meth making. I don't think we were seeing crystal meth here in Aus on any semi-large scale until early 2000's?

is this the old ice epidemic one? has the chick rummaging through bins for "good" stuff?

Not sure I saw that part, i've been in and out of the room a bit tho.

it goes on to show smurfing, faces of meth, restricting sudo and ephedrine etc etc

nah man, that's Four Corners doco The Ice Age.

I'll never forget 'Matty's' face or his explanation of the varying characteristics of a "speed skater" and a "figure skater" ('Lenore, the chick going through the bins)

Oh was that that one, yeah not the same, I kind of liked that one more, as it was Aussie and showed Aussie users and stuff.

the doco on sbs was pretty interesting i thought. . regarding use in the US and the info about when it started hard again in about 1996 & why etc . . Enjoyed :)

I thought it was an okay doco, I had seen it before but a long while back. I thought it focused a bit too heavily on severe meth users and showing the "faces of meth" that we're all so familiar with. But there was some good info in it.

fuckin no shit theres a meth epidemic. every time i go to a hospital theres another psychotic throwing bins threw windows, fighting security. Has any one been to St Vincents hospital on a weekend? hooooooly shiiiiiiit!!!

i liked this doco a lot

pretty objective, considering the material

learnt a few things about meth I didnt know before either

if this is the doco i think it is, i remember it being a pretty decent watch. i viewed it over youtube sometime last year or the year before. one of the better ones i've seen of late, anyway.
