Doctors/Specialists attitude in OZ. Much diversity?

I have several questions that have aspects to the title.

what are peoples opinions of older doctors as opposed to younger ones? Assume they;d be like getting blood from a stone

Does ethnicity play a role on how doctors an first gen Australian GP, or even a foreign born GP?.(that has been taught different practices and treatments)

If Said GP graduated overseas, he\she would have to adapt to our laws and healthcare system. But to what extent? Is it quite complex and in uniform, or do individual GP's./Specialists have different ways and forms of treatments depending on how they were trained in their medical school

I can imagine our system is complex and not generic with other country's system. and so many GP'd form all sorts of foreign country's. can't completely adapt surely

I think there are a few different GP/specialist associations an Government regulation registers, but the diversity in practice's moderately sized with a heavy culture base are quite different in attitude to others. I'd take an middle aged GP with a Chinese name any day of the fucken week

New "SuperClinics" or whatever those huge all-in-one walk-in clinics are seems to be filled with the same narrow-minded GP's(well at leat at my local) there;s another superclinic in st kilda winch is really goofd and understanding.

Small clinics with predominantly Anglo-Australians seems like they're a lot tighter in going by the book, and their comfortably in prescribing after a long time A family clinic that you've seen a GP there most of your\r life will most likely treat you with respect and care about you and forgive your mistake and walk out with a script to help with

I know that if i wanted/needed for a mew GP that i would try and find one with an Asian name.

Have anyone considered different politicises,malpractice/ignorance and diverse through practice to practice throughout Australia? And it there's a preference.... for instance you might have an old GP whi is understading and prescribes to your needs?

I want to meet young and beautiful Chinese psychiatrist and eventually fall in love with her.... anyone ever had a crush on a hot doctor?

I don't know about ethnicity playing a role (it will come down to the individual). i used to date a girl from singapore who studied med in aus (now a doctor in singapore) - and despite indulging in drugs herself - still held a very closedminded attitude (singaporian to them). So getting your benzos or opiates off her would be hard.

I've found good doctors and bad doctors, and their race doesn't have much to do with it. I will put it out there and say that alot of the young international doctors often have a poor bedside manner, but in knowledge they would be as good as anyone else.

some doctors are very script happy and ask few questions, other times I have been hounded like a motherfucker because I went into a walk in clinic and asked for stilnox (despite having the box with my name on it).

Older drs are probably better in that they have seen it all before and have more accumulated knowledge over the years, younger drs are probably better at understanding problems faced by todays youth.

Best thing is just to see the one dr.

i had no intention of being racist, honestly, i'f just that i think certain doctors from certain different backgrounds have different ideals and therefore are different doctor. I've been to 3 Asian GP's om my 27years and found all of them caring.

been felt totally worthless by some others i wont go into since this seemed like a dad idea to tall abut this. I'm due to see a PM specialist and just found out i can get in to see one earlier that the original who just do happens to aam a Chinese name i guess i'm and ijudt fucked in the head

Ok to add some substance to your question I had one doctor be an absolute hard arse on me today. but in my situation it needed to be done. He is caucasian and good doctor. He just believes in some tough love when it comes to scripts and honesty!

too add to your asian thing. I find most doctors to be compassionate. but I feel alot of the overseas (and in particular, young and asian born doctors) lack good communication skills and a good 'bed side' manner. they certainly have booksmarts and compassion, but could use a bit more training on how to deal with people in a less awkward manner. BTW, I have known alot of asian med students (even dated one). I shouldn't generalise, but many spend so much time either studying or stressing over getting good marks, that they don't socialise much - hence my theory on the poor ability to relate to their patients. Most would be very naive about rec drugs outside of a textbook, if the reason you visit so many doctors is to doctor shop (not accusing you of this - but alot are guilt of this on this board).

Well it's the current state of our healthcare system and i wanted a bit of insight with other peoples views on it.

i never went to medical school and would like to know what our policy is on foreign Drs and such as different ways different GP's practice. if they're aloud to.

^^^^yeah i know, must of been obvious. and for your curiosity i was pretty high throughout the last several days(not even oxycodone can stop my pain atm). Benzo's just make you do and say stupid things sometimes, well with me anyway.

Another thing i found relevant was that my only experience with one of those BIG medical/other walk-in centres, which i seldom have to bother with. the few times that i have, I've been told that they have a no benzo policy no matter what the indication? last time seeing a GP there I asked "then why do you script my mum temazepam?" she said but your condition is different? i said "what's different about not being able to sleep due to a death in the family" she then realised that she had indeed seen my mum a few days ago and gave her temazepam for the death of my Nan. She seemed embarrassed and wrote me a script.

the general policy of that particular clinic seems to have it's own guidelines on what GP's there can prescribe. has anyone else noticed this? I has read a report about someone mentioning that their local super clinic has a disclaimer at the desk saying no benzo's(in other words)

I post on lots of forums, with way to many rambles and spelling mistakes. you can probably notice this in the last week of my posting, if the posts are after 8pm (my posting of dubbed home and away scenes on the 'club closure thread' is a prime example). I even spent 4 hours trolling some bigoted and sexist site! I also called up some girl I had only met once for like 5 minutes last year, and just spoke shit for like 30 minutes. benzos can make us do silly things.

my condolences to you and your family for losing a loved one. it is always a very sad and traumatic experience. i wish you all the best through this difficult time.

hey Psytaco thanks for cheering me up. benzo's and thinking WTF the next day seem like a common theme if you abuse them. they make me emotional too and i feel better not taking them ATM. the binge only made things worse

yeah, I've woken up the next day, and thought what the fuck did i write on that forum, text or say to that person? can make for some pretty funny reading the next day if you go on a bit of a forum and text spree like I do.

Regarding the benzos. be careful man. Addiction can creep up on you, and if your having emotional issues they may seem like a good solution because they just stop you worrying and thinking too much. but addiction to them can be serious, and have some very serious side effects.

I've been put on a discontinuation program even only after a short period of daily use (30-15mg valium a day). So yeah, just be careful!

Also dude if you are having problems with grief or other difficulties going on I suggest you give lifeline a call.

or go see a counsellor that specialises in grief. It is often very helpful to talk to someone (particularly when they are removed from people you know, and are trained in the area).

Cheers, and thanks for the advise, although i've experienced 2 month valium/xanax period dosing 80mg of valium until i switched to 8mg of xanax a day. I had to drink half a glass of wine on the 3rd night and yeah it was pretty bad. a lot more psychological than opiate WD but less than MDMA i think. Well i never take more than a weeks worth a month after that but i still have an omnipresent tolerance to it

I need to start seeing my psychiatrist again thanks for that service... never heard of them. will give em a call. might as well. usual thing would be to use H or and just sleep with lots of benzo's but it's worse in the long-run and i cant afford to anyway> burned all my barrels so i would just take my script of oxy orally and as prescribed

I think if you want to get effective advice or an appropriate prescription you need to see a doctor that specialises in that area. Generally speaking, GPs are not drug and alcohol, or mental health, or pain management specialists so in regards to getting the right stuff you need to see someone in that area.

I don't necessarily think age/race/religion/ethnicity/whatever plays a role. Its how comfortable the doctor is in their own knowledge of dealing with whatever the problem is.

My GP refferred me to my d&a doc to help me taper off my benzo addiction because it isn't her specialty and she isn't wanting to risk making anything worse.

Best advice from me is :
a) Use your brain
b) See your doctor/a doctor. If you have a legitimate reason and they aren't comfortable prescribing for it they will refer you elsewhere to someone who is comfortable.

^^^ I'm seeing 2 different specialist within this month. a PM and an orthopaedic. was just a general question about the healthcare system and if there were generic guidelines for practitioners to follow by the health dep, or individual practices have their own policy with their doctors and put restrictions on gp's who work there.

My GP is happy to prescribe me oxycodone, the specialists may not
