Doctors are testing seniors for drugs such as heroin, cocaine and “angel dust” at soaring rates, and Medicare is paying the bill.

It is a roundabout result of the war on pain-pill addiction.

Medical guidelines encourage doctors who treat pain to test their patients, to make sure they are neither abusing pills nor failing to take them, possibly to sell them.

Now, some pain doctors are making more from testing than from treating.

A pain managment place I know of bills insurance almost five hundred dollars for each patient every visit for a 3 dollar stick test substance scene.

The medical communities greed in the US will come back and finally bite them in the ass eventually. The whole system is broken.

Make lobbying illegal and watch this country fix itself in a decade.
 
Around 4 years ago back when my rheumatologist was still prescribing my medication one day she decided she wanted a pain management doctor to handle my opiates and refereed me to one. He ended up giving me a fucking $1600 drug test then told me he still wanted my rheumatologist to handle my medications. She was perfectly fine with that so I'm not even sure why she sent me to him in the first place. This was back when I didn't have insurance so I just said fuck it and didn't pay. I was eventually able to get out of it.

My memory may be a little... off, but I believe I recall reading about how at least one of them can be 'abused' - oh the horror!

That poor TCA has apparently been victimized countless times over the past few decades by ruthless human abusers 8)
