so as the title says, my mom had an oncologist appointment today and he said its something you can get off the shelf and i think he pronounced it as lostiteride? Does that ring a bell? or does anyone have a website where I can search all vitamins/minerals/supplements? I would call tomorrow and ask but he's on vacation until next week thanks so much guys

she recently had a small bowel obstruction after a hernia due to a hernia from a full hysterectomy due to stage 3 ovarian cancer. the same doctor told her turmeric would be good to take as well, just wondering if anyone's heard of anything similar to lostiteride or of anything similar? or a site where i can look up any medication with "ide" at the end? really want to help my mom out

The only drug I can think of that's related to bowel pain is called Linaclotide, but it's not over the counter. You need a prescription for it as far as I know. It's used for people with IBS who have constipation. I guess he figures it would be good for preventing bowel obstruction... keeps the bowels moving, and minimizes bowel pain.

Has some gnarly side effects though.

I could also be wrong and that's not the drug he mentioned. Can't you just contact his office and ask him to repeat the name?

There are a lot of medications that end in "ide", unfortunately you seem to be at a dead end.

Did he maybe mean "loperamide"? also known as Imodium? The mild opioid to reduce bowel motility and anti-diarrhea? That's over the counter.
