AFAIK US presidents can only do two terms, so if they release some 'findings' just before the next election and win, they'll be maxing out their puppet anyway.
My money is on that, something will be 'found', whether it's WMD, Hussein or OBL. Bush may then win (maybe even legitimately this time) and the neo-cons get another 4 years of destruction and international arrogance.
Unless they change their constitution or find a new puppet as willing as Bush (doubtful), that will then mark a falling back of their reign of destruction and unsurpassed international arrogance. War-weariness will have set in strongly by then from the US forces just in Iraq and Afghanistan, if there have been more occupations by then I supect support will drop.

It'll be too late though, the UN wil probably be in tatters by then, and the US will have gotten knee deep in imperialst expansion and adventurism, if this scenario plays out, it's unlikely that any of the damage would be reversible, at least not for a long time...

Downer's voiced his support for a permanent 'coalition of the willing' that would be separate from the UN and NATO.
Many in the US are saying the UN has become powerless and irrelevant. I wonder why? 8(
If this Coalition of White Anglo-Saxon Protestants is formed with Australia being a part of it, we will in effect be snubbing our nose at the very idea of international law, and will become a player in a small renegade clique of rich western thugs.
I can't begin to describe how much damage this would do to international relations, if it does get considered, it had better be proposed before an election, I'd actually vote *gasp* just to stop it.
If it does become a reality though, I will renounce my citizenship, get an EU passport and say goodbye. If Australian public support backs it, I will also burn the flag as my last act as a citizen.


I know this is all somewhat dramatic speculation, but that's what this thread asked for and I am genuinely concerned about the future, moreso than ever before.
We are living in eventful times, fellow BL'ers. Let's hope that our hands are not further stained with the blood of the innocent, and our minds not further polluted with the doublespeak of war-mongers.

I agree with you Steve and I wish people in Australia would stop voting for Mr Core & Non-Core promises John Howard and his fellow Liberal party liars.

Also,Steve I personally feel you should always vote so you have a say in who in running Australia and to help try to get rid of dud political parties & there leader running the country(into the ground).

To answer the original questions:-

I think the WMD will be found when the USA & co have planted them in Iraq and say they found them. Or our dodgy leaders will hope we forget about them and continue to crap on that "it doesn't matter because we liberated the Iraqi people 8).

On Bin Laden I don't think they really care anymore.On that note look out for Michael Moores apparent next movie: "The Business interests linked between the Bush family and the Bin Laden Family". I expect it to be released around the USA's next Federal election,he,he,he,he,he................. :p

I also wish for something to be done about 'David Hicks' & co who are still being held without charge.Release them or charge them, with a crime and have them face a court.How ironic we apparently started a war to get those WMD ("What a surprise we can't find them") and then say it's to LIBERATE the people of Iraq to have freedom.At the same time we deny the rights and freedom of at least two Australians("David Hicks & Mamdouh Habib").

The way Australia currently is I am a shamed to be Australian.I also feel on the current path we are heading this country is doomed.NOT just to do with the war but on the negative things this federal government does eg: Taken away workers rights,punishing the unemployed to distract from the fact the government isn't helping businesses to create stable jobs("Too many casual jobs and NOT enough full-time jobs").But it is helping businesses to LEGALLY exploit workers,treatment of refugees,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc.....................................

i dont think they'll find suddam. I dont think they'll go looking cos they havent found any evidence of weapons. and when they do find him he can say well the us put me in power, supported me for years, gave me my weapons. and rage war with me because i refuse to be their puppet.

as for osama? i think they'll be bombing a few countries before they do find him.

personally I bet both saddam and osama have gone to north korea or india or parkistan who could do with the money they'd bring and took the weapons with them to give in exchange for hiding them.
