Do you think Heroin would be the king of opiates if it wasn't illegal?

I think that Heroin is held in such high regard by opiate lovers because it's illegal and that makes people think it must be better. Don't get me wrong, it IS good, but I think it's overhyped. If diamorph was just another pharm that could be prescribed, would it be considered the king of opiates still? Personally, I think that if all opiates had the same legal status, oxymorphone would be considered the king of all opiates by far. Opinions?
 
I think it's history has a lot to do with it; because it can be easily made it's become the black market opioid of choice and so has developed a culture really. Also, it's reputation is entwined with that of morphine and so spreads back quite a while.

If oxymorphone had been produced back then instead of heroin, then it could quite possibly be the other way round.
 
i've seen studies posted here which concluded that opiate addicts preferred heroin/morphine over all the other opioids they tested. obviously the addicts did not know which ones they were getting but heroin and morphine both scored equally high and there was a clear preference towards those two. however, i think the validity of the studies was called into question or something, you'd have to find the thread and in inspect it to see for yourself. assuming it was correct though, heroin and morphine were the kings of opiates.

I dont know, I've heard a lot that long term addicts CAN'T tell the difference between heroin IV and any other opiate IV, even something like Buprenorphine. But of course, I've never seen any paper myself saying that, or even the opposite. If someone knows a link for them, I'd appreciate it.

I also think Mr. Blonde is right. Its the history and society. It's built up as the king of opiates, and also the most addictive and dangerous drug. Surely that has to play a role in the addict's preference for it.

Uh, what? Buprenorphine isn't even a full agonist, myself and any other IV H addict would totally be able to tell the difference.
 
Yea, I agree. Id be able to tell the difference between H and Bupe. I havent done Morphine since I was not addicted to dope and OCs.

I can also EASILY tell the diff from boy and oxycodone. I fucking hate OC compared to decent quality dope.
 
bangin OC's isnt that great but man that first Dilaudid rush i had was comparable to any H rush i had if not better. I had no idea what to expect and just got fucking slammed with greatness.
 
Heroin and morphine are virtually equivalent, except that heroin passes the blood brain barrier faster and more efficiently, creating a better "rush." In terms of medical practice I doubt that heroin would have many advantages over morphine although it does find a place in countries (like the U.K.) in which it is legal for medical use in the treatment of intractable pain particularly in end of life care. Different people respond to different drugs differently not only for recreational purposes but also in the medical setting, so I think that it should be an option for physicians to prescribe in that context too. In terms of recreational use and addiction, it's slightly more pleasurable than morphine, but really isn't all that different, so I think that the cultural baggage that it brings with it, for good AND ill, is a big factor.
 
Ive never IV'd or even ate/snorted Dilaudid.

Banging one OC80 to me... Makes me feel like I did a few years back when I only took Norco's Lortabs. I get sped up and clean as soon as I remove the rig from my vein. I havent nodded off OC's in at least a year. But bangin two Roxi 30's will make me nod... Hmm

In fact.. I like Roxi's 50x more than Oxy. Id take 60mg oxycodone IR, over 100mg oxycodone ER any day. I'd also take a short pack of dope, rather than an OC....
 
No heroin is most definitely the king of opiates, I mean its a faster onset version of morphine, it doesn't get much better than that. Sure there are opiates with higher potencies but nothing has the qualitative aspects of morphine/heroin. Now on the other hand I might prefer some of the atypical mix action opiates more, tramadol is one such example. But when it comes to you basic mu agonists it is clear to me that the oh so deliciously trippy morphine and H cannot be beat.
 
I should add that several respected members of this board have been theorizing about diacetyloxymorphone, saying that it may be better than H so perhaps there will be a new king in the future but I see this drugs potency making it an unrealistic choice for street sales.

Yes I think heroin would still be king. There are many reasons beyond just 'it gets you the highest' (it doesn't).
 
answers here are going to be all over the map

but, i would agree with the person that posted regarding morphine/heroin in trials involving addicts, in which it was generally preferred... I myself dont like morphine, but i like oxy, hydromorphone, and fentanyl almost equally (technically oxy, fent, hydromo....(that order).
