I can honestly say I dont. I used to feel bad when i would steal,so i didnt do it often, or do somthing bad. Now after using drugs for a period of time i feel nothing. I can lie, cheat, steal, or do whatever and not feel remorse. :p
 
i still have a conscience (i hope) but my actions and my values are not always in line.

maybe it depends on the drugs. what are you using?
 
What do you want us to congratulate you or something? Hurray you can steal shit from people and not feel bad.

Now lets test your theory of your non-existant conscience for a little bit. If you don't have a conscience, as you have stated, you wouldn't have a problem with murdering a persion right? How about 10, 100, 1,000,? You wouldn't feel bad about murdering one of your close friend or relatives?

I think you do, in-fact, have a conscience, as I believe everyone does (What did Freud call our ethical values the Id or the Super Ego? I'm drawing a blank at the moment), but your ethics have just gone down the shitter a little bit so that you won't have to feel bad about stealing in order to keep up with your addiction/s.
 
Yes I definitely still do have a conscience... in fact i would say that it is stronger because of my drug experiences. I have seen the depths of drug and gambling addiction both personally and friends... I have seen the lows, and I know what I won't do.

I have a fairly strong set of morals and ethics when it comes to stealing and other people. If you are having problems with this you should really talk to someone about it. It's really not healthy (mentally that is) so if you wanna chat send me a PM or an email:

I'm sure I have a conscience, but it doesn't work too well. The only thing keeping in check sometimes it seems is not wanting to be thought of as insane
 
I think you should take chaobutterfly up on her offer... to help you develop your conscience before you hurt yourself.

what you are saying sounds so stupid lay off the drugs.
 
Luckely that doesn't go for everyone, most drugs shouldn't let to that.

But people who use awfull stuff like crack or Heroin "i say yes".

I recently took a couple of psychology courses at uni, so here's the basics:

The Id is the basic pleasure craving animalistic part of us, the "reptillian brain" if you will. It demands instant gratification from anything you encounter, irrelevant of any consequances.

it's that voice in the back of your head: "You could steal your mom's purse and go get high right now and that's all that matters".

The ego is the rational voice going: "No, ask her for some money, you'll get less cash right now but you'll be able to ask her for more next week without being confronted about the theft. If you steal it now you fuck yourself over long-term and can't get high next week". The ego operates on the principle of delayed gratification and maximized long-term reward.

The Superego is basically a collection of indications of "right" and "wrong". Freud believed it was entirely formed by the do's and don'ts ingrained in you during childhood. It's basically an "internalized" version of the ego, you delay gratification and avoid doing unpleasant things to other people not because it makes sense but because it's "right". It is your conscience, and it's always there, no matter how hidden it may seem.

However, and this is all according to Freud of course, an imbalance between these three parts of the soul is responsible for many severe psychological disorders.

If you operate on your Id, which is what you are saying you do, you are bothy putting short term over long term and ignoring your moral compass.
It's no way to live your life, so I definitely think you should make evey effort to rediscover the ego and superego as integral part of your psyche. I'm 100% sure they aer both there, because otherwise you would rape every nice looking girl you see on the street, steal every dime you come across and etc. etc.

Take Madam Butterfly up on his offer (get it? so many levels... =D)

I have a conscience, but only when it is nesassary, I don't think I could ever steal from someone and not feel guilty, it would never occur to me to do something like that in the first place, but if I did, I think I would feel bad and I would return what I had stolen, so I would say yes, I still do have a conscience. :\
 
Sometimes these types of opinions that I find among my fellowing substance using/abusing friends tend to piss me off. I should really look up that letter that Camus wrote to his friend who joined up with the Nazi's in WWII. It seems very relevant to this conversation. Camus was talking about how even though the world was irrational and when we try to find meaning in the world we always fail in our task, that if we throw all of society's values out of the window, such as the prohibition against murder, that we would in fact be siding with the Universe against all of Humanity.
 
i know i deffinantly have a consience.... i pay my own way for what i use, and if i do steal something the drugs just wont do anything..
i feel like its only worth using something if ive paid for it... guilt free and just no need to fuck ur mind over with thinking about what ive just done to get high.

methinks you do indeed have a conscience, b/c someone who didn't would need to make a post like this asking for acceptance from his peers...your insecure dude.
 
There have been codes of Ethical behavior and certain Morals in every society that has ever been known to man. The universality of these types of societal codes of behavior indicates, atleast for me, that ethical beliefs are an innate feature to humans.

Once again this relativism is quite childish and annoying. There has to be objective truths in the world or otherwise if I decided to go out and murder 20 people, who are you to judge me? If murdering 20 people was the best thing for me to do at the time, why shouldn't I do it. There has to be some sytem of objective truths that exist such as "you can't kill," "you can't steal" otherwise chaos would ensue.

Please think out your statements and atleast try to justify them, before you post.

I think I still do. But not as much as I used to. But is that something to do with growing up, rather than drugs? Prehaps a combo of both?

I've stolen quiet a bit from my mum, borrowed a lot, and never paid her back. A few years ago, I would have felt really, really guilty about this, but I don't now. After a long period of time, it is the norm. I didn't even think about it.

I don't do it anymore, probably because of my conscience. And I am paying her back. So prehaps it was a growing up thing on my behalf.

Your're pathetic. I can't believe someone can be so shallow, so hollow, so fickle, as to actually post something like that. Are you putting us on or what? Nothing wrong with murder? Sorry folks, but either this dude/chick is fuckin around or if serious, sounds like a sociopath to me. You want to know why murder and stealing are wrong?

I'll be happy to explain why they are wrong. No, not because the bible says so. No, not because both are against the law. The reason they are wrong is quite simple. We must live with each other and get along. To do those things causes great harm to others and when to benefit yourself deliberately at the cost or detriment to others robs not only the victum from his/her life and/or possesions, but rapes, depletes, and violates those victums psychologically.

Why should that concern you? Well if for no other reason than knowing/imagining how YOU would feel should someone come along and do that to you, therefore automatically knowing on some deep inner level be it spiritually, psychologically, morally, whatever word you choose, is hurtful and damaging. Harm takes away from whereas unselfish acts, the desire to care for and about others and carrying out such desires benefits, adds to, and heals yourself and others as opposed to taking away from others and causing harm.

People that think nothing of murder or stealing, or in any way harming others for whatever selfish purpose they care to satisfy leads to no real reward. People that damage/deplete others later if not sooner attract the company of others that are like minded, which means you will reap the negatives consequences that you sow. You will have no real friends, no one you can trust, and guess what? Other psychic/material sucking vampires like yourself will inflict the same pain and damage you think nothing of inflicting on others. Like you, they won't think a damn thing of it. Why not steal from you, take all or most of your money/dope/possesions that you love the most?

Hell fuck whatever pain it puts you through. The only important thing is what benefit they get out of the harm inflicted on you. So what if you get dope sick and in dire need of drugs because they took what was not theirs. They don't care. As long as they get high why should they give a rat's ass the hell they put you through? And of course if anyone person or people gets a wild hair up their ass and decides to go on a murdering rampage and dice you up into little bits and peices, hey your primal soul peircing cries of agony are their entertainment therefore it must be alright. I tell you this. You put out harm, your're going to get it back because like minded people tend to always gravitate towards like minded people. That's why it's NOT alright to steal or murder just because you feel like it. If you don't believe me, just you wait and see.
