Do you share your poems with the people you write them about?

This question was asked a few years ago in this forum, I just found the old thread here while I was looking for something else..

I thought it was an interesting question and worth asking again. When you write about someone, do they know about it? Do they read it (would they want to read it?)

If I write about someone I generally don't show them because it's all a bit vulnerable really, innit? :) If they asked to see it I would definitely not say no, and people know I post stuff here and on my livejournal so it's not like I'm keeping it secret...

I guess I'm just a bit shy/self-conscious about presenting it to them myself though.

What do other people think?

Yeah, I've written many poems for people, and pretty much always shown the poem to them. I often write poems for birthdays or other occasions (I guess you'd call it occasional verse) - sometimes just a few lines in a card.

I find that writing something for someone and having them read it can be a way of making a deeper connection with that person. Sometimes it's in lieu of making that connection in some other way. Maybe no other way seems apparent. That can strike me as sad... but it's the way things are I guess, and the way I am. I suppose this kind of thing is what drives a writer to write.

Recently I wrote a 'portrait' of a guy I met out one night, threw it on my blog, then sent him the url so he could read it. He liked it, which was a buzz.

Generally, no.
It's pretty much just my way of expressing what ever's on my mind, and letting it out so that it doesn't fester.
My writings are mostly just a flurry of thoughts that the subject of them couldn't comprehend, thus they need not see them.
Or perhaps the premise is too nasty!

Like wordy though, I do often write a few lines in birthday cards which adds a more personal touch.
The receiver is always appreciative.

i rarely do. maybe if i write something positive about someone. ill show them...maybe.

generally im pretty secretive about my writing, i like the anonimity BL provides.:)

I don't think I've ever given someone something I've written for them (I might have, but I can't think of any instances right now) but I know that plenty of people have read what I've written about them. Sometimes it's my roundabout way of telling them how I actually feel because, as has been pointed out before, I'm not good with 'moments'.

ive written a ton of poems and songs for people and i always show it to them. ive even written hate songs for people and recorded it for them haha. to me writing is something meant to be shared! :)
