This is not really a poem, it's just a thought.
Do you really know who your friends are? I worked for the same company for over 5 years. Recently due to the poor housing market I was laid off. At work I had 3 really close friends. Every weekend we would all do things together. We would hang out, drink, party, fish , etc. etc. etc............Just enjoy hanging out and enjoying each others company. My wife would crack jokes about how much time we would all spend together.
At work they were just a little higher on the food chain than I was, unfortunately most people that were in the lower positions were involved in the lay offs. Now that I'm home and struggling to find work I can't buy a friend. People who would answer their phones whenever I would call in the past all of a sudden seem to be no longer there to pick up. No calls of I am so sorry about what happened, I hope you and your family will be alright. No let's go hang out for a while to get your mind off things. It's almost like I was never even there.
I guess I just learned the difference between a work friend and a real friend!!!
If you have close friends that you have known for years make sure you call them, keep in touch with them, listen to what they have to say, treat them with kindness and respect and they will do the same for you.
