Do you leave the windows open when you leave or go to sleep? Why?

When you leave the house (for the day or just for a couple hours) or when you go to sleep at night, do you leave the windows open? Why? / Why not?

Also, do you have locks on your windows? Do you use them?

I do close and lock my windows at night, partially because of the person I live with mandating that I do. However, even when they're gone for the night, I find myself closing and locking the windows. Sometimes I'll leave one open at night, but with a window fan in and with the dog in the room. :P

Why do I lock them? Mostly out of habit, partially out of paranoia. My house did get broken into years back--Through a window that wasn't able to be locked.

Whenever I leave the house for any length of time (more than a half hour or so), the majority of the windows get closed and locked. The exception to this is if my dog's in the crate, then I'll leave a window open in that room.

Sometimes a window in direct sight of a neighbor will get left open during the day, even when no one's home--This is only because the neighbor who lives like 20 feet away is a peeping tom. :P No one's getting in through that window!

Anyways, I'm just curious to know whether I'm alone on this one or if others do the same.

I'll leave the windows open on a warm night because it's a safe area. I always close them if I'm leaving the house though, mainly for insurance purposes. The policies are usually such that you need to take reasonable steps to secure your house when you're not there, so if you leave a door or window unlocked and someone gets in, the insurer might not pay out.

In summer I sleep with my door open. I leave the windows half open in winter but close the blinds.

I like airflow in the room when I sleep, I can take it or leave it but I prefer it.

I am afraid of windows. After watching the movie Congo I developed a fear of random gorilla faces appearing in my windows. The most frightening thing I can imagine would be to pull up the blinds on a window and see a face staring back at me.

Still, when it's summer you gotta leave the windows open. Nothing like a nice ocean breeze on a summer day accompanied by a peeping tom dressed in a gorilla costume.

There is no way that i'm leaving the windows open during a Melbourne winter. Aside from that, i'm a huge fan of fresh air, and wherever possible, will open windows and doors to let it in.

I'm a agoraphobic and hate being bothered.

I like to be left alone on a highly elevated level.

Last time I left a shade drawn a policeman knocked on it, made me answer the door and threw me in jail for 3 nights. Don't ask.

I not only lock all my windows but keep the shades drawn. I hate answering the door as well. If they want me bad enough they'll call like a normal person.

So I guess it's extreme anxiety that keeps me tethered to this ritual. Plus my mom would always freak out when I left ANYTHING open. I never used to care...

Lol, I live in Melbourne too and I cant sleep with my windows closed, esp during winter! No one understands why I do it. I just love airflow haha. I need 10 doonas on me though.

I used to live in an apartment, and that was broken into while me and one of my housemate were home, and the dude actually walked into my bedroom while I was in bed... So I figure what the hell, if im going to get broken into, not even a deadlocked front door could stop that fucker, so may as well have a window half open.

Can't sleep without a through breeze, regardless of the season. Only difference is that in summer I have the window open a lot wider as quite often the warm air is just as annoying for trying to sleep as a closed window.

Nothing beats being warm under a duvet when you can feel like a -15c breeze on a winter night... all about the simple pleasures haha

My windows are open all the time, but I'm on the second story. It gets hot if I don't and I'm pretty sure no ones going to climb through.

^lol, I have the same fear of peeping toms. If I leave the windows open and the blinds drawn I refuse to fall asleep on that side facing the window. It's totally rational. 8)

I leave my bedroom windows open- and when I lived in my own house, I left the windows open while home but locked them during the day.
I've lived in safe areas for years now so it's never been an issue-
Right now I have both of my windows open in my room and we've been opening all the windows and doors in the house on warm days. :)
I love fresh air- and I ESPECIALLY love the smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves when I'm going to sleep and waking up<3

Absolutely not, all my shit would probably be gone when I got back. When I leave, even for an hour or so, I'll shut, lock, and close the blinds. Am I paranoid? Idk, but I can't afford to have shit stolen and it takes 30 seconds.

Depends on the pollen count, the humidity, and rain forecast.

I don't leave windows open when we are not home. The main floor windows are not always locked.
I like a cool breeze running through the house when we don't need to use the central air.
I feel safe enough where I live to leave the doors unlocked while I sleep...but I don't. I have retained that good habit from living in cities.
I recently stopped locking my car doors when it is sitting in the driveway :)

When its cooler out the windows are open , Florida summers are hot & humid and we keep the a/c for the pets . I have four dogs that bark at anything outside that makes a noise. I feel very safe here and leave the doors open (unlocked ) . No problems in the 31 years i've been here , but once some car full of drunks pulled into my driveway to hide from a police chase , i woke up to 4 police cars with lights flashing . It was a trip to see them do that DUI stuff in the street and haul the away the guys then tow the car !!!=D

Where do most of you live that you can actually sleep soundly with the window open? I live in a small town and I still wouldn't leave my window open for fear of waking up and missing a lot of my stuff. Or worse. Male rape! When I was a kid living in the country, yes. Window open. I loved it when a breeze would come through and makes the curtains move. Now? Practically welded shut.
