Do you get your pet high?

Never done it, my dog dislikes smoking so i try not to do it around him at all. He does however like to have the occasional drink or two.

When I was 16 or 17 I got my pet bird high.. He really wasn't right after that. I felt bad. I have a ferret now and she got into my MDPV and liked it (well she always tries to get more when its around), but I wouldnt intentionally give them drugs.

^Blowing smoke at birds (any kind of smoke) can kill them. They can't handle smoke. You should definitely never blow smoke at a bird.

That article is about animals eating large amounts of marijuana. It's definitely not a good idea to feed an animal weed.

I knew a cat that once ate about 1/8 gram of hash and it was really high but didn't get sick or anything, it just chilled on a bed really relaxed and purred.

I don't really see what's wrong with getting animals high occasionally if they enjoy it. My animals aren't attracted to pot so I don't give it to them.

But I know people who's pets literally beg for weed when it gets smoked around them and clearly love the effects. You shouldn't smoke your dog out everyday, and remember the size difference, but I can't see it harming them occasionally.

If you do get them high, it's your responsibility to stay around them through the duration of the high and make sure that they enjoy it though.
after enough times animals can associate certain actions or sounds with a consequence. when my cats hear a spoon tapping against a bowl they come into the room because they know theyre about to be fed, when they see me go into my basement and fill a bucket up with water they know that im about to be smoking

animals dont need to talk to be able to communicate they dont like something. they hiss, bite, scratch, and run away. seeing as my cat sits there and enjoys it every time i do it, as well as he always sits on my lap and still sleeps with me every night i can safely say he doesnt view me as a threat.

however, ive tried smoking with his brother and he made it very clear he wasnt into it since he ran away.

my cats make it very clear when theres something they dont like. i treat my animals better than i treat myself, so therefore i am not a dick as you so assume.

I totally agree, it's ridiculous for people to act like animals are unreadable. I can tell pretty much exactly how my cats and dogs feel, they're very expressive animals. I can tell when they enjoy things and when they don't. Getting an animal high can make them happy or not, depending on the animal, just like people. If they enjoy it there's no reason not to do it.

My huskie once at about 2 grams of bud of mine from a table, he was soo baked didnt move for about 1 and a half... But he was alrite, and has never been better lol

I've never blown weed into my cat's face or anything, its unnecessary, but he hangs out while I'm smoking a lot. He sits on my lap and watches the smoke when I blow it out, he seems to enjoy it.

I must say I agree with Wolfmans_BrothEr, if animals don't like something they have a multitude of ways to show their dislike and I don't see anything wrong with a situation like he mentioned, he's not holding the cat down and blowing huge hits in his ears or anything and its free to move/leave at any time.

One of my good friends has a really old huge Pitbull that seemingly loves weed more than being fed. If we're sitting in his living room smoking out of his bong, and she hears the sound of the smoke being cleared from the other room, she literally comes running and rests her head on your knee for a rip. She's pretty slow and arthritic for the most part, but she runs for her medicine and when shes had enough she goes and sleeps. I don't see why a full grown dog with a high body weight wouldn't experience some level of relaxation and pain relief similarly to a human. Obviously our brains differ greatly, but as far as the physical aspects are concerned, its probably about the same.

I don't care for the politics surrounding the subject. Simply put my best friend doesn't like to get high on herbs and so he doesn't partake. I guess he senses it is poison. Good cat.

Why don't you just go die you stupid fuck. His cat just died and you're a cunt for talking shit on him. Thank you and I can't wait to receive my infraction.

Wolfmans Brother - the link you posted to something about dogs doesn't work.

I don't even know why yuo are bothering arguing about this. If you don't think it is harmful for your cat to regularly inhale smoke then seriously you are deluded. Call me 'closed minded' all you want, I just don't agree with cruelty to animals. People like you don't deserve animals. Fucking prick.

since were judging people based solely on one thing they say then your a judgemental closed minded prick who jumps to conclusions on shit they know nothing about and is wrong about 100% of what comes out of your mouth.

http://www.critterology.com/marijuan..._pets-120.html < this article only talks about dogs

and have any of you read the negative effects of marijuana use on humans. injesting/smoking cannibus can increase heart rate and marijuana users are 4 times more likely for a heart attack within the first hour of ingesting marijuana. it also induces respiratory issues, a weakened immune system which can lead to bacterial and lung infections as well as tumors. a study also found cannibus smokers to be 3 times more likely to develop cancer in the lungs.
source: http://www.nida.nih.gov/infofacts/marijuana.html

another study was done where the equivalent to 2 ounces were injected into a dog's jugular with no ill effects.

now let me ask how many of you have suffered heart attacts, any sort of bacterial infection or cancerous tumor from cannibus use. not to mention if he really doesnt like it theres a wide open door he can walk out of at any time. also they go to the vet once a year and so far the only problem theyve had is one has minimal arthritus in his right hip

just because you view it as wrong doesnt make it fact

You can go die in a ditch as well you fuck. I love smoking weed and been for awhile. But seriously you don't have to get your animals high. They may like it but it's still wrong.

I feel that forcing an animal to smoke is mean spirited at the least but if, your toking and they just happen to hang around and sniff the haze, well then that's not that bad, forcing them to take a second hand hit is just as bad as forcing them to actually smoke. Now my personal experience is some like it some don't my fiance and sisters dogs chill with me when I'm toking up, my mom's mini wiener do too would I force them, no but, if they wanna hang while I do then I'll take the company and they are welcome to a good long belly rub.

my dogs don't like the smoke...but, my dog Jett likes to eat the roaches when I'm finished with them.. I can toss one out it the back yard and he will actually sniff it out and eat it...

I don't own an animal apart from a tortoise ( which I wouldn't get high, I don't know how a small reptile would react) but I think that if an animal likes to get high then let them.
If its not forced, only once in a while, they like it and its not hurting them then why shouldn't they be allowed to get high?
People saying its wrong are basically like politicians telling humans its wrong to smoke. Why shouldn't we be allowed to do something we enjoy? The same goes for animals.
If it isn't causing them harm (any more tham a human anyways) then why shouldn't they be allowed to enjoy it?

thats such a ridiculous thing to say. Can a cat comprehend the potential harm from smoking cannabis and make an informed decision??

and how the hell do you know how much harm it is causing??

Valid point, but from seeing other people get their pets high for many years, they havnt seen any ill effects. My freinds dog has arthritis in one of his legs and it seems to relieve the dogs pain.

It could be causing harm yes, but probably not, I can see why your of that opinion and I respect that, but I still stand by my own opinion

you almost have to assume that since we're talking about warm blooded mammals, that the effects would be similar. But then, think about this, grapes can actually kill a dog. so can onions.. it may not be the same thing, but it makes you think about the differences between us..

I'm 50 50 on this one.

If you give the animal a vaporizer and they come running every time they hear you about to smoke then I would think it is harmless for the animals health and they are excited about having the high.

on the other hand if they don't like it and you pursue them I would think it to be cruel.

I'm sorry guys, but I'm going to use my best judgment and close this thread. It's a controversial topic, and in no way do I think it supports the harm reduction message that BL is here to spread. "Animal abuse" which this can turn into in some situations is not harm reduction, and I think that aspect of it alone is enough to justify the closure of this thread.

While this is still at the top page and not at the bottom so I won't be bumping it, this has NOTHING to do with harm reduction, in fact I would consider it the opposite. I would close this thread in an instant as well, and similar threads have been closed in the past here in CD. I'm not sure if they are around, pruned, or in the hall of shame, but these are not CD quality posts or the type of discussion we are looking for.
