Basically I'm wondering if you only lose all that weight while your withdrawling and you gain it back naturally once it's done, or if that weights gone for good until you make the effort to gain it back.

My reason for asking is because I gained 15-20 lbs of muscle while being on my bupe program, and I'm worried that if I'm going to lose it once I start w/d'ing

During withdrawals you are about to lose excess fluids that have been gone in your body during buprenorphine maintenance. Muscle tissue will vanish little if all.

yes once you are back to normal and have a normal appetite you will put weight back on again

We are actually discussing this in the UK section atm

Many people that end up on methadone put on alot of weight because although u r still on the opiate your appetite returns but you still get that sugar craving so you actually put on more weight than when your toally clean which is whats happened to me , i acually am over weight so yes you will put it back on

Unless you are using other weight reducing drugs of course

Oooooh yea you put the weight back on. My junky weight is about 120 lb. When I'm clean, I get bored and eat... a lot. After several months clean, I gain up to about 150-155lb.

alright thanks, but the main thing im stressin is that im gonna lose all my muscle once i start w.d'in, MrRoot said little muscle tissue will vanish, would you guys say that an accurate statement?

not really with me, my muscles are not as tense as they once were tho

dunno if tense is the right word but when i used to tense them there were rock solid before i got a habit now when i try to they are not as solid as they used to be

dunno if thats cos i havnt worked in over a year tho cos my job was pretty active

Withdrawal is a temporary thing. Several of the withdrawal symptoms could cause weight loss, but it wouldn't last any longer than the withdrawal itself. You know, the feeling of not wanting anything to eat, the vomiting, diarhhea, etc. Not trying to be nasty, just saying that those could all cause temporary weight loss much like being sick with the flu would, but once you recover things should be back to normal. Like someone said already, the weight that is lost, if any, is most likely going to be fluids and would be quickly replaced once you are feeling better. Muscle is lost when you are not consuming enough calories to sustain the metabolic requirements for the muscle. So yes, if you were going for long periods with no calories your body would eventually start breaking down the muscle to keep the brain and other organs functioning. I don't think that's something that you need to worry about though, get through the hard days and then your appetite should return and you should be fine.

yes, you will gain your weight back right when you get off drugs... unless you concsiously eat less to prevent yourself from getting your weight up. just eat well, and everything will be in place. the only way your going to lose/deplete your muscle is if you DONT eat.
