Do YOU get "coughies"?

My friends and I all share the misfortune of coughing up brown/grey/black/beige phlegm from our lungs after smoking or otherwise, from my research I gather that this is from simply smoking too heavily, yet Iseldom if ever hear about other stoners having the same problem. If you wwouldn't mind sharing your experiences along with your own smoking habits and what not it would be much appreciated.

Every single day, moreso after work and/or a workout. Wait, scratch that-- it's worst during the first hour after waking up in the morning.

I smoke at least three cigarettes a day, at least 3.5g of weed a week and have been for the past several years.

The brown/grey/black/beige stuff isn't phlegm, though-- it's tar in your respiratory system being carried out of your body via phlegm.

Nope. Some synthetic cannabinoids I smoke can be a bit irritating to inhale but that's it. Can't say I experienced anything like it when smoking cigarettes either.

I got it from cigarettes and I just recently quit =D!!!!!!!!!!! Like a month ago. It's so crazy, I didn't feel like quitting, but all of a sudden I had an epiphany about gross cigs are. Sorry for the tangent, but I'm proud!

After the cigs my lungs went on a cleaning spree and I coughed up nasty phlegm for awhile. Not anymore though, so weed doesn't cause it for me.

I don't cough much after I quit smoking cigarettes. I also started primarily using a vaporizer and I think that's contributed to it as well.

after being a pack a day cig smoker plus a quarter a week smoker, I used to cough up colored phlegm - brown, black, grey, yuck!!. Now that I vape and dont smoke, I still cough up phlegm, but now its completely clear.

I feel I should also add that I've been choppin' my herbal with tobacco for the past year or two. Not every bag I get a hold of, but a good 4 out of every 5 times I go to pick something up. Then, I smoke through a bubbler more often than not, holding my hits in longer than I probably need to or rightfully should (10-15 seconds).

So yeah, I agree that tobacco is the main culprit of "coughies" (I've never heard that term before... I like it) but I recall coughing up similar shit back in my high school days before I ever started smoking cigarettes.

gotta love that black lung. im always coughing up black shit. then again im always smoking.
Imo id rather be coughing it out, instead of it staying in my lungs.

Salutations MindExpansion,

When i quit smoking hashish/cannabis in 2007 i tought i'd never enjoy it again but then i read about vaporisation and finally started exploring this consumption mode in February 2011. It was a revelation... Yet some more time was needed before i came to this experiment:

The only trade-off i've managed to find which would let me appreciate aroma/taste and still delay/limit couphing happened to be what i tagged "Fog Conditioning": e.g. no need for water washing at all. Boiling-hot water in a bong will accomplish pretty much the same goal (if it's not full enough to generate bubbles, that is!), though i verified months later that vapor conditioning takes places naturally in some butane-operated devices:

NSFW:
Briefly put the fuel-burning reaction turns filtered butane into HEAT + WATER VAPOR + CO2, it's that simple. It was eventually confirmed in this setup:

...which led to this result:

Lets mention that most other VG Classic consumers seem generally satisfied while in my case the pipe just failed to work as sold: it was necessary to perform modding in order to access the correct temperature range from my own comfort zone. Eye contact helped a great deal with this, the rest was related to the heat-exchanger itself... Etc.

Anyway, the 1st step would be to quit smoking i suppose! Good luck with that if you ever get tempted.

=D

Do you smoke cigarettes as well? That might be the contributing factor. I've smoke a few grams every day for years, and I can't say that I've had this problem. I might've coughed up a bit of phlegm once or twice, but never tar. I generally take bong hits only, if that makes any difference.

Salutations DeathLOL,

I quit smoking Drum Tobaco in mid-'95 and it was a contricuting factor but then my "tokeu" tool too i guess, because that thing got dirty in no time with resinous tar... Yuk! That's a long way from my recent adventures:

Isn't it: actually that's water-vapor conditioning at work here!...
