When it comes to prescription drugs I cannot resist the urge to correct people or answers their questions. I sometimes come under suspicion for knowing too much about painkillers etc. from non-drug users. It is not that I know everything about them, just more than the average person. I try to act ignorant sometimes but it is just too tempting.

Do you ever scare people or raise suspicion from people who don't know you use drugs?

ive already gotten the rep in my group for the guy that not only knows alotta bout pills, but does the most out of anybody else.

i fucki hate people who throw round their knowledge like its a way to be cool in the group, but sometimes i hear the dumbest and most rediculous shit out there that i cant help to be a smartass and correct them.

when you hear shit like " o dont take methadone, u know thats synthetic heroin right?" it really urks my fuckin nerves.

This topic is definitely more suited for Drug Culture

--> Drug Culture

Personally I think that yes, I do scare people with my drug knowledge. I sometimes slip and tell random people tons of facts about drugs and I'm sure they think I am weird for it. I've devoted a lot of time in my life to read about drugs and I usually speak up when someone is spouting misinformation about them. I know when to hold back, I never say anything around my co-workers. Co workers, most complete strangers, and law enforcement are the only people I really try to hide my usage from. Other people I will talk to about drugs. A couple of my friends and my dad who is no longer a recreational drug user and hasn't been for many years finds parts of my random drug knowledge interesting. Lately my dad has started taking more anti-oxidants and is interested in my supplement regime at least. He is a marathon runner and I believe that certain meds could help him like magnesium for muscle tension and glucosamine for joint pain.

only when talking about exotics that even relatively knowledgable users have never even heard of.

I have the reputation in my school as "the druggie"

in reality - this is totally untrue. I can't believe the absolute idiocracy some people spout about drugs. i can't help but correct them. This makes me look like a massive addict/etc as im not meant to know this much for my age.

And thus, what rumours goes around the school ground must sometime make it's way into teachers conversations. I don't want my teachers perception of me to affect my education - so lately im trying to reverse my "label" (albeit unsuccessfully)

I mean just lately, some kid was saying dextroamphetamine in the form of dexedrine is shitty compared to street speed, and that drug dogs cant smell them because theyre illegal. I tried to tell him dexedrine is the same as street speed, infact its a much purer pharmaceutical grade amphetamine - much better than 98% cut street amph. And that you can be prosecuted unless you had a valid script. Fucking tard.

I actually try to hold back on saying too much, because i know i can get into long rants about such and such if so inclined.

most of my friends are geeks, but the ones who aren't kind of come to us geeks when they want advice because theyre not dickheads, they just dont spend the time to read up on things

All the time. Usually doctors, nurses, friends, and family.

I wouldn't say I know a massive amount about all types of drugs but I have done a lot of reading about certain types of drugs such as extasy, amphetamines, LSD and a few others just for my own information before I got too far into using.

I used to get into conversations about drugs all the time with people which probably did nothing to enhance my reputation but when you hear people talking absolute bullshit and old wives tales you have to correct them.

I try to stay away from talking about drugs now unless its with people that I'm high with at the time.

Some of my friends from back in highschool are still generally conservative concerning drug use/knowledge, so sometimes I will mention what I would consider basic knowledge among drug users to them and they are like "WHAT! - how do YOU know about that?!?". They probably think I'm some kinda crazy mofo, them silly friends.

I work as a tutor at a local middle school.

This week, the 7th and 8th graders I tutor have been doing Powerpoints on drugs. Each of them has been assigned a certain substance. While walking around the computer lab and looking over their shoulders, I can't help but do my best to educate them. Especially when they're writing things like "Marijuana is highly addictive and will give you cancer if you smoke it more than once."

These poor kids have absolutely no clue. Now, I certainly don't advocate drug use to these children in the slightest. However, they all look up to me, and I think it's important they hear the truth.

No, LSD will not kill you.

No, GHB and rohypnol are not the same thing, and no, they are not "date rape" drugs, though the latter has the potential to cause anterograde amnesia.

No, your first cigarette will neither addict you nor give you lung cancer.

Yes, the government and its drug policy offices are giving you false information. They have no qualms about lying to children.

Of course these kids ask me if I myself do drugs, and I feel comfortable telling them that I do smoke weed, seeing as how I am an intelligent, proficient student recently admitted into a good college.

Could this get me fired? Possibly. Is it important that these kids know they're being lied to? Without a doubt.

i find that i am talking a lot more about harm reduction tactics then the next guy in my circle of friends. Especially when rolling, tripping whatever, i've definitely had my drug binges but i try to encourage spaced timing as well as vitamins/antioxidants when we are using substances which are possibly neurotoxic, most of my friends appreciate it, but sometimes its just like "fuck it, lets do some fuckin drugs"

i would be careful, and deny that you do drugs. Sure give them all the unbiased information, but you know how kids can and will talk to parents etc

I try and avoid these conversations as I usually unintentionally become "The Salesman". e.g. "Man, that sounds cool and not as bad as I've heard! Lets get some of that LSD stuff!"8(

I don't scare my friends but they think I'm a nerd. Their drug ignorance scares me though.

Yeah, I'm a chem/psy major (switched) who spent many a long night studying random substance-related material fueled by a meth habit. I can't help myself from going on about drugs whenever they come up. In fact, I am upset with how much I talk about drugs...

more often then not i just bite my tounge.
especially at university, some of these kids are just starting to experiement with drugs. And like everything they hear one uninformed person say, they repeat with their own twist on it.
sometimes the things people say are just so way off base, it'd be impossible for me to correct them without changing their entire view on an entire class of drugs.

I'm not like one of these BL'ers that can tell you about molecules, and receptor sights, and all that heavy duty stuff. But I've done a lot of experimenting in my past with almost all 'popular' drugs. By getting high for 7 years, and reading bluelight and erowid for like 3 or 4 years I'm not a chemist but i know (what i would consider) basic drug knowledge. My basic drug knowledge is like a fucking PHD compared to some of these dumb asses...

i always seem to correct my friends, and do show them risks, tell them detail on drugs... the best example of how people who abuse drugs turn out to be is myself... because im fucked.
