Do you eat deer meat?

Most carnivores consume non-meat's. Ie all felines, all canines, and infact.. pretty much all carnivores. Ive seen dogs eat many a non-meat food aswell as the cats ive lived with.. one used to raid the celery garden and eat it regularly. Not much but just a few nibbles.. enough to be annoying if you want to harvest the celery haha.

Oh yes. I love making venison stew. My husband goes deer hunting almost every season and we get a freezer full of deer meat-steaks, ground venison, sausage, deer jerky. It tastes somehow "cleaner" than beef. Less fat. Super good. Everyone ought to try it.

i fucking love deer meat, could live off that shit

my brother in law hunts alot and i actually came down to ocean city for the weekend to see the of my family since my brother in law came for the weekend so he could hunt in delaware.

if he kills a deer ill be eating deer meat this weekend. hes gonna stop waiting for bucks and start killin does to since he has to refill his freezer so we can have deer and he can give deer meat as xmas presents

i know its from robin hood but wasn't the right to kill deers only allowed for royalty?

i have never tried deer meat but have tried kangaroo and it tasted alright

I love wild game... I've had deer, moose, bear and caribou. Lately, I've been buying farm raised bison at the grocery store. Pretty much the rule is, that you don't want to over cook it. It will be dry because it is very lean.
I'd post pics of some of some I've got but only if a mod would say it was ok... I don't want to offend anyone and get banned or something.

At the least PM them to me, I'm interested, and would not be offended, though I can't speak for the mods of this specific forum.

I think that should be fine, iheart. :)

If there are any gory shots, please put them under tags. But if it's cooked dishes, images that aren't overly gory and bloody then they can stay in the open. :)

I don't get to eat deer enough. I'm not a hunter (a skill which I'd like to learn) and the only time I ever get fresh venison is when my uncle/cousins (from out in the boonies) bring it in. Jerky, steak, sausage...venison is pretty much delicious any way you prepare it.

There's only one butcher shop in town that I know of that supplies venison and lots of specialty cuts (which is weird considering I live in Nebraska, a state practically crawling with deer), but game can be pretty darn expensive when you live somewhere dominated by supermarkets that don't cater such things.

If you travel north in NY you will find that eating deer meat is very common.

My mother's family lives in upstate NY. Most also eat venison, some hunt, most don't. It's not a lifestyle for them but a couple do enjoy the hunt, and the meat does all get eaten by the extended family (which is huge). I don't think any of them ever kept chickens or did the roadkill thing.

matt - pheasants are tasty, I'll bend on gamy birds every once in awhile. I don't care for bison.

mmmm its good <3. Dont have acess to it often but once in a while my neighbour brings me some after hunting. Once I went to a medieval type club with a friend and we ate deer heart cooked in deer...still dont know what i thought of that one lol

yes tis great.

I had some the other day actually.

It's great during the summer aws game meat is cooling in it's post-digestive effects, whereas all other meat and fish is heating in nature.

THanks for the kick to go hunting - I been meaning to for ages, time to get my bow out and practice practice practice!

Venison is so very good for you MMMM - fairly easily digestible for meat too, and not a very high fat content - it is one of my favourite meat products.

<3 Bambi burgers <3

Venison= <3

my brother and my dad (and grandpa) all hunt each year so there's usually enough to go around. venison jerky is great and all, but just plain venison fried in butter with some morel mushrooms is crem de la fucking crem. elk i've had, rabbit, pheasant, and goose. i wouldn't eat the southern exotic animals like crocodile or snake, i have this thing about not eating things that could eat me.

Man I love deer meat. I used to live on a farm in the Piedmont hills of NC, and had basically unlimited access to it. Nothing like pulled venison with a homemade Dr. Pepper bbq sauce, or spicy deer jerky, or deer sausage... Nom.

Also love some rabbit, elk, quail, ostrich and alligator.

^ Do you eat Moose? I've always heard that Moose is so tough that it's not worth eating, but recently I've seen recipes for Moose steak and something called 'Jellied Moose Nose'.
