Do you answer "Unknown" callers?

any caller who isn't in my contact list can leave a message, I don't care if it's an interviewer or the hospital calling to tell me a relative is dead, whatever, a voicemail with your name will suffice. If you don't leave a voicemail than obviously your call was not important enough to waste my time on :D

I answer, simply because I want others to answer their phones when I'm calling from an unknown number.

You just never know and I would hate to leave someone stranded or in a bad situation because of my fear of who could be on the other line.

i dont get it, if youre pulling the phone out to look at it, whats the second or two more it takes to answer and then hang up if its not important?

i hate talking on the phone. especially to people i don't know or don't usually converse with. this includes telemarketers, long lost friends or people in distress.

I don't answer them usually, but I've had a few times it be from my doctor or something calling me back and it was on a private line for some reaosn. Those kind of people usually just leave a message anyway, so regardless, I don't answer.

I answer the calls, I find it amusing, let them do a sales pitch then say no thanks and hang, or sometimes I lie and say council house they normally hang up and remove you from the dial list.
If its a debt collector then I know its the wrong number and happily tell them that.
The amount of calls I get though from people who are booking in that are unknown if I did not answer the phone we would have no business.

so I answer them :)

I have no issue with answering blocked numbers - as rangrz says - i just end the call if i don't want to hear from them.

While there are people who i don't actually want to talk to - i still have their phone numbers stored in my phone, so that i actually know if it's them, and can just not answer it ;)

I see nothing wrong with ignoring a call from a deliberately blocked number, unless I'm expecting a call from someone who has warned me their number is blocked. I wouldn't answer the door for a person with something covering their face. I wouldn't say anything that could be held against me to a person who won't give me their full real name. This situation is no different. If you expect me to engage you in any way, it's only fair that I know exactly who I'm dealing with and can form some preliminary notion of why you want to talk to me. Otherwise all the cards are in your hand, and I can be forgiven for assuming I'm being taken for a mark.

Because sure enough, many calls from 'unknown' or 'private number' that I've answered, have indeed been people trying to pry money from my hands.

If it's someone I know, they can leave me a message. If they get annoyed I don't answer, all I need to say is, 'How was I supposed to know it was you?'

I answer always. It has been eternally ingrained in me from my teen years that when I would be out with my friends, to always answer the phone when my mother called, and so now whenever the phone rings, I without any conscious control, select the button to answer and say hello in hesitation and regret. I have tried to curb this habit I have acquired, but I cannot. When I see/hear a number being rung on my phone I MUST answer.

I am just thinking about pre caller ID, I don't recall anyone not answering their phone unless they were delibrately trying to avoid someone, in which case they used to say ring three times hang up and redial lol

Samadhi, I must admit I do that also with people I do not want to talk to and keep their number stored so I know to ignore it.

Let it go to voicemail, if they dont leave a message with their name and number or something, they aren't that important.

on a landline,no. but i always am curious about who is calling my cell phone.... i always want to answer my friends phones for them when they dont answer blocked calls too haha.

I do, but I really should not answer them, since most of the time it's not the person I want to talk too, and there is a reason why they block it, but I get so curious that I do
