This presumes that people have access to insurance. Not everyone does, smoker, obese, or otherwise.
People don't realize how much fat people are demonized and the amount of pain they go through. I was chubby as a kid and still recall the dysphoria of simply having to show my body. Hell, obese people already deal with enough shit what with increased rate of illness and the sheer effort of moving. I think obesity is a mental disease which should be vigorously targeted (in a humane manner) as I stated earlier, not something that should cause government to limit freedoms, as slimvictor and others point out. It really shouldn't be that difficult to eradicate.
except kids, who eat what their parents feed them. and this is when you learn healthy eating habits.

I didn't think of it that way, but I can understand why you might say this.
I have changed my wording in my post above to reflect this new understanding, and I will not use that word again.

That's like saying people choose to become heroin addicts, except oftentimes more so because as kaywholed said people learn their eating habits from their childhood guardians.
A person can always make the choice to live healthy once they are an adult. It sucks that they had shitty parents, but once they can make their own decisions about food the excuse evaporates quickly.
