In my head less and less.
I nodd off on some painkillers once a week, at least once every two weeks. Will this make me stay skinny? I already am. I don't know but, I tend to eat a lot when using opiates. Someone told me they make you skinny and weak.

No way, only with daily or semi-daily use do opiates/oids cause weight loss.

And its odd, most people have a reduced appetite but some actually have an increased one!

It makes me really hungry too. Any statistics (clinical studies?) about this would be appreciated.

makes me STARVING more than cannabis munchies. and smoking on opiates (like i'm going to do right now) makes me SOOOOOO hungry i can eat 3 full meals in one sitting.

which is good because i'm so skinny. ugh. i need a natural appetite somehow. does excersie stimulate appetite? or increase it?

Don't know for sure. I mulled over the insert for oxycontin and it said that both anorexia and increased appetite occurred in less than 1% of test subjects (227 subjects).

I know what you mean, I feel like I could eat the entire fridge and pantry!

I was on a 60mg therapeutic dose of oxycontin (20mgx3 daily) for a couple months (up from 20mg/day IR originally up to 40mg/day IR for about 6 months until I switched to oxycontin) and still experienced just as much hunger, however, I didn't gain any weight during the period I was taking between 20-60mg of oxycodone (ER and IR) a day.

Bastard doctor took me off of them with minimal taper and nothing else to control my pain but that's a whole nother story :).

Agreed 100mg of H smoked leaves me fuckin' ravenous ... one 100gm of 85% chocolate would last me 6 months as I don't eat sweets (candy for our cousins) but on H I'll have the full bar =D

PS Also makes me fuckin' horny .. I always seem to get some paradoxical effects from drugs.

^^ same as me.

benzo's , like klonopin and xanax usually make my palms sweat, make me shake and make me nervous whereas, ritalin calms me down and dries my palms and makes me confident. i've fallen asleep on adderall and stayed up from 2-6am popping klonopins until 6am comes around and i've taken 10mg i finally pass out. i have a lot of paradoxical effects from meds.

and i get all the opposite effects from SSRI's and other anti-d's than everyone else i know, i have NEVER gained weight on any anti-depressant, they all make me nauseous. ugh.

I can't eat anything on opiates. Rarely do I get hungry on them. I'll usually lose a few pounds if I'm using more than once In a week. When I do try to eat It usually gets a restraining order from my stomach

I been using opiates heavily for 5+ years and never gained any weight.. Perhaps it could be the fact that I am withdrawaling as often as I am high on them which evens it out.. When I am on them I am constipated eat a lot and when im not, you know... When I wd I dont eat shit and everything comes out the other end which seems like a good weightloss protocol although it is very painful and not recommended!

yeah is there any way to make that not as harsh? like wake up middle of the nite and take a little bit of some opiate then back to sleep or something? i dont know... its the worst tho... :X :X :X :X

It all depends if opiates work as an anorexic drug for you or not. For me most opiate/opioids certainly do not help me lose weight. Opiates give me the munchies often, especially a few hours after dosing. I have found certain synthetic opiate drugs like tramadol does curb my appetite and works as a diet aid for me.

Opiate withdrawal definitely takes away my appetite sometimes for long periods at a time. I have lost over 15lbs before mainly because of withdrawal.

I didn't know if maybe it burns the fat faster or something. I know I eat a lot when I take them, but I definitely don't gain anything. Then again I eat a lot always and don't gain anything. LoL

the way it went for me was before I was dependant they decreased my appetite, after becoming physically dependant I can hardly eat when not high because of w/ds but become starving after blowing a 40 or something.

Are you in your teens or early 20s? If so, that is why, your metabolism is already high, it will catch up to you eventually.

As far as eating on opiates, I find that they do not make me hungry at all. However, eating on them is a rather enjoyable experience.

Same here, I eat alot on opiates.

Ice cream, fast food, pizza, bacon&eggs, I tend to make poorer food choices as well...

I guess though, after daily repeated use of opies, eating isn't as fun as it was.

Ive only been dependant for about a year and lost 40lbs and counting... Completely %100 destroyed my appetite, on and off the shit. Now on bupe and no better. Fentanyl was the only thing that allowed me to eat regularly again, it was strange. However, whenever my oxy high would start decreasing and the itch would get real bad, i could think of any food and instantly have the most intense craving for it. This was real nice, but only lasted an hour or so. For some reason now i eat fruit all the time...besides that i just have to wait for that hungry feeling to the point i could eat a full meal, which happens about twice a week. Besides that im snackin...

Do painkillers make you skinny?

Answer is: no.

But why? Well,

"Nucleus accumbens mu-opioid stimulation causes marked increases in the intake of highly palatable foods, such as a high-fat diet."

Furthermore,

"... feeding effects caused by striatal opioid stimulation are independent from or downstream to the actions of dopamine and glutamate signaling, and provide novel insight into the role of striatal acetylcholine on feeding behaviors."
