Opioids Do Opiates affect GABA Receptors?

OK.. well I have heard some talk about this lately, and this has me a little concerned.

Reason I am asking is because I have been clean from Benzo's for almost a month now, but still in pretty rough shape from benzodiazepine withdrawal. Never knew they could cause this much fucking damage, fuck benzo's. Yes they are a godsend for anxiety, but the physical withdrawal symptoms are just fucking insane.

Anyways, I was clean from opiates for almost four weeks, but I have been using Oxycodone and Hydromorphone this past week. I've only been using about 40-60mg of Oxy per day, and about 16024mg of Hydromorphone Intranasal every second day. <-- type (16-24mg of Intranasal Hydromorphone is what I meant.) Nothing compared to my use before where I was using around 600mg/day of Oxycodone.

Anyways, myself being in Benzodiazepine withdrawal still - probably going to take months to up to a year before I feel any better, and maybe some permanent damage, I don't know. But being in this state, I am wondering whether using opiates would be hammering any part of my GABA-A Receptors any harder? I have searched this, but can't really get a straight answer.

Nope, you can go ahead and take your opiates. They might affect GABA in some slight way since the brain is all interelated but the important thing is they do not bind to GABA receptors, will not influence tolerance to GABA drugs, etc.

I am in going through benzo withdrawal also and have gotten quite addicted to heroin in the process. I use heroin to help ease the horrific pain of benzo withdrawal. Although I obviously cannot say where I'd be without heroin, I do not feel that it his interfered much with the healing process, if at all.

If they do, maybe just a little. But even though opiates relax you, its a different kind of relaxation. Dreamy relaxation my favorite

Poppy Tea contains some minor alkaloids that that act as Gaba receptor agonists.

Perhpas a mild latent increase in activity at some point, but essentially no.

Recovering from prolonged benzo usage is rough, but it will continue to get better. At the peak of my xanax "indulgence" I was taking 8-12mg a day. Getting off it was hell, as you well know, but I got better. I can't say exactly how long it will take, but certainly not a year. You should be feeling pretty decent in another month or so, maybe less.

Good work- being a slave to benzos is no way to live.
