Do not understand the hype about fentanyl!!?

I received some 50mcg Watson Fentanyl patches for my sciatica. I got them for pain, sure, but also wanted to try to get a little buzz...or actually a BIG buzz from what I've read and heard about Fentanyl. So at first I was SUPER scared to mess with these things because everything/one said that they're sooo dangerous and the tiniest bit will kill you instantly and blah blah blah. I am a recovering heroin addict and started using back in '96 so about 15 years. So I know I have a crazy high tolerance..even when I was clean for almost 4 years I still needed enough meds to knock out a 250 pound man to have surgery once...I'm around 5'5 130. Anyhow, getting off subject here. I have used the patch before, but it was a 25mcg and I used as directed to keep from getting sick when switching from heroin to Suboxone. And it did the job..but I never FELT anything. So I got these patches Wednesday and put one on around 2pm. While waiting for SOMETHING to happen I came on here and other sites to find ways of using the gel inside. So first I tried taking a small amount of the gel and rubbing it into my cheek and gums...Nothing. So I tried again with a little more and held it in my mouth longer...still NOTHING! So I took another SMALL amount and placed it on foil and tried "smoking" it....NOTHING!!! So I tried a few more times and after that I put another patch on and continued to try to sleep in PAIN. (BTW I have been up for about 3 days now not being able to sleep because of the sciatica pain) So again today I left the patch I put on around 2AM Thursday and tried to "smoke" again to no avail. So what I'm getting at is...THIS SHIT SUUUUUCKS!!!!!!! Has anyone had a similar experience??? Thanks for any input!!
 
It's not that hyped up. Fentanyl and it's analogues are not that great in my opinion. They just don't feel as 'warm' as the true opiates (morphine, codeine).
 
Yeah. Fentanyl is by far stronger than heroin or oxycodone on a mg/mg ratio but some people may like the high of other opiates much more. IME fentanyl does not have as 'warm' of a body feeling and it more just kind of knocks you out because of how strong it is. The feeling is way more of a sedated one, than a warm fuzzy feeling and a light nod. I would argue that fentanyl is better than morphine but worse than heroin.
 
I've just seen a LOT of people on the internet talk about how awesome it is and how great smoking it is..felt like a waste of my time! I'm going to my doctor next month for my sciatica and hopefully he won't try to put me on that crap. Also my insurance isn't gunna cover it anyhow. I would rather do some Roxi's to be honest.

I can't believe some people actually attempt to boot this shit either!!

I mean I felt absolutely NOTHING!! It's not even helping with my sciatica pain! I felt like maybe I took a Darvocet or something weak...maybe even Tylenol.
 
If you get the patches with the gel, some people have been known to open them up and eat the gel which is dangerous because the dosage cannot be measured but if you eat just like a tiny bit of gel at a time you will eventually get high. And yes, people do try to 'boot' the gel. Whether or not it works I do not know because i have no experience 'booting' fentanyl.
 
Yes they do, you are right. I forgot about that. My buddy dislocated his knee and got fentanyl IV from the paramedics. like 3 times! damn.painful shit though.
 
Yeah I heard of the ampules but have never been given them. I just smoked the last little bit I had and I feel a teenie tiny something, but Honestly I'd rather eat a xanax or something :)

Also, (again this is my opinion) I think the dangers of Fentanyl might be a little hyped up too. I don't know of anyone personally that has died from Fentanyl abuse, and it's sad to say, but I've known a lot of people who had died from drug overdoses. I smoked that whole 50mcg patch in like an hour MAYBE. There was enough to make 4 pea sized blobies.

But I understand the need to get the fear out there. When I was getting bad into heroin it was killing people left and right in Orlando (when I lived there). By then it was too late for me had already been hooked.

I wish I would have been warned or woulda done some research on opiates before I tried them. I had no idea they were physically addictive. I wouldn't have touched em. I got scared strait into NOT smoking crack or meth, too bad opiates weren't pushed as hard not to do.

I guess you didn't expect 14 year olds to do heroin.

ok...thanks for waiting a whole 18 minutes before getting stroppy. Think of BL more like a message board; you pin up your question, and come back and check a little while later to see if anyone has responded. This isn't an instant messenger conversation.

BDD stands for Basic Drug Discussion. Your thread was deemed to concern more basic discussion than what is usually found in OD (Other Drugs, where you initially posted), and so a moderator moved it over here,.
 
Gatorgirl, I had sciatic pain for a long time and for the most part the drugs did offer me any real solution. I know how frustrating this can be. To make a long story short I got a porcupad from a friend and ended up buying one myself. It cleared up my sciatica but what I like about it is that after about 8 minutes it releases endorphins ("endogenous morphine") in the body and gives a nice relaxing buzz.

If people would just explain themselves instead of just writing random abbreviations then there would be no misunderstanding. Not everyone is "hip to the lingo" on here. I JUST started on here this month.

So, thanks for explaining.

Ok..I have never heard of a porcupad. Can you please tell me what that is?

I JUST got my insurance back starting February 1st, so I will actually get to find out what is causing my sciatica. I went to the ER on Xmas and they only did an Xray and from my understanding they can't really SEE causes for sciatica on an Xray, you need an MRI.

But thank you for your input!
 
I have had IV fentanyl at the hospital, and though the rush was nice, the experinece didn't seem to be that fufilling compared to other opioids. Of course, I was in an uncomfortable place (hospital), and not my home where I could just relax and do what I wanted to. It did induce the nod, but it just felt "off". I think even if I were to have had the same experience in a comfortable place, it still wouldn't be as good as the experiences I have had with other opioids. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but it does seem a little hyped up. Who knows.
 
I'm not that crazy about it either, I think it just gets a lot of hype because of the potency. Not saying I wouldn't do some if I had it.
 
Fentanyl is only good for a few things. Keeping from being dopesick. Pain relief... And lowering your tolerance to other opiates like oxy while you're wearing a patch so you can get high on less.
 
I had a lolli once, those are fent right? I was naive and no tolly....sharing it with a friend, kinda gross, but I remember accidentally like biting a piece of and swallowing it - good lord you would've thought I was on E or something..

To me though it seems as if fent is an easier way/option to administer meds to those who may not be able to take a pill etc....not strong to those who have been around the block tho
