edit: sorry the title should read: Do most ppl get a new needle every time they miss a vein?

In my last thread i was told how important it is to not re-use ya needles.
well last time i had a shot it took till my 3rd attempt to find a vein.

Im just wondering if most ppl pull out the plunger off the needle ya missed with than pull off the plunger of a new needle, hold them together & tip the water containing the drugs into a new needle before re-trying for a vein.

Or is it generally pretty safe to have a few attempts if needed with the one needle.

I dont want collapsed veins or anything & just wondering if most ppl use get a new needle every time they miss a vein?

I can say with certainty that the vast majority of people aren't gonna pour out the drugs again, don't worry about it too much. You're gonna be doing more damage by actually missing the shot than by reusing a needle a couple times/

Good on you for thinking safe though =D

it is best practice to refilter and use a new needle if you've poked and missed a couple of times. it's quite amazing how much the tip of a needle is manipulated )read : fucked up) after piercing the skin a few times, leaving good room for ripping up your precious veins.

here's a pic to prove my point

^^so i take it most ppl dont get a new needle every time they poke & miss a vein.
well at the hospital they dont get a new needle. they've missed on me a few times & keep using the same one till they find a vein

^ well they should get a new needle! In hospitals they generally use bigger needles which can withstand repeated venepuncture attempts a little more, but which in general do more damage. Patients tend not to be stuck with a needle as much as IV drug users. They should use a new one really though.

Most people probably don't use a new needle no, but they should - reusing it blunts it as the picture shows, which increases damage to the vein, causing it to thrombose and collapse. This limits your usable veins, which isn't good and leads to using more risky sites, causes track marks and ultimately impairs the return of blood to the heart from your limb. It's not good practice at all if you want to keep your veins healthy!

noo neither i nor anyone i know would do that, don't share em and over use em and your fine, a couple misses is normal... i once used one into the double digits.. don't do that

^ definitely dont do double figures!!

Just because you have reused them and are okay doesn't mean that others will be. Fact is reused needles will destroy your veins faster than fresh ones. Of course a lot of people reuse them but a lot of people run out of veins that they can use too..

I think everything that can be said has been in this thread now so am going to close it. If anyone has anything they would like to add, feel free to shoot me a pm :)
