Hello BL. I've been using heroin iv only for about a month now, I have a 3 shot per day, 1 bag per shot habit and a long history of opiate abuse. I have solid insurance (blue cross blueshield) and I heard you pay a small fee once a day. 1. Is methadone cheaper than suboxone? 2. Is methadone a drug that I can take and taper down from the beginning? Thanks.

Weigh your options first and formost,

Are you on any opiate at the moment, can you test positive?
You got cash?
Be at the clinic at 5am.

Dilaudids got me in

When I got into the methadone clinic all you needed was a urine positive for opiates and at least a year of opiate abuse. They ask that--how long you have used--and won't take you unless you have used for a year or more. I think it's national guidelines. It used to be anyway , i dont know if it's changed.

They basically don't want you to jump right on maintenance without trying to detox, etc

Some places have a detox option. You go in on a say 6 month program where you are stablized then slowly brought down. I actually wanted that option this time but my clinic (even though they market a detox option) won't accept you if you aren't looking for maintenance. So I had to tell them I did, but now I'm tapering slowly :)

Sometimes suboxone is a better choice at first. Personally I don't like it though. Others have had success with it

If you are really new to using though, your best option is going to a detox. In a week you're back to feeling ok. Without the long term maintenance. That is really more like the end of the road for those who nothing else worked for. Some detoxes use methadone to detox you with. Some use suboxone. You have to ask around and make calls and see.

Your usage is still new enough you'd probably be happier with a short detox than getting on MMT. Unless you think continuing to use will be a problem, in which case MMT provides more stability. If not, you could do a 7-day Suboxone detox through a Doctor.

Methadone is a beast "addiction" in itself. Although not allot of people see it that way. IMO your gonna get hooked on something strong and harder to kick. Honestly I think that a subutex "quick" taper would be easier. As I had 2y of those liquid handcuffs and it ain't pleasant.
A quick detox would suit you better imo.. Goodluck mate
