Do I have anything to worry about with this combo for my anxiety/depression?

Okay... currently on Zoloft 50mg, risperdal .25 at night, adderall ir up to 30mg a day, and 2 mg klonopin daily.

Going to taper off the Zoloft cause I don't feel like it's doing anything at all and believe it's giving me excessive alcohol cravings.

Adderall helps, and klonopin takes away the jitteriness and am thinking of keeping the risperdal cause I heard it helps with adderall side effects and my obsessive worrying.

But I need this daily. I'm pretty much addicted to the klonopin already, but I'm concerned about the mixing of uppers/downers and feeling like a drug addict. I have decided to quit smoking and back off drinking (except socially).... do you think this could be a successful combo?

esp. with the risperdal, I've looked it up on the internet on combining with adderall but haven't gotten much info. Could this drug lessen side effects from the adderall? It certaintly doesn't make me sleepy for some reason.

I think SSRI's paradoxically ramp me up more and make me feel like I'm going even more crazy. And they don't brighten my mood. I'm hoping this combo will do something.

oh and btw... sedating anti-psychotics like zyprexa and seroquel are out of the question cus I have no insurance. wayyy too overpriced.

Well - Risperidal (risperidone) is a dopamine antagonist and Adderall is a dopamine agonist, so in theory I guess they should reduce the effects of the other one but I am not sure - have you been prescribed them both by the same doctor? I would imagine the interaction is fairly complex so definitely the sort of thing an expert should be dealing with.

I would guess (but it is a guess!) that Risperidal would indeed lessen the unpleasant side effects of the Adderall, and I know it can be helpful for things like obsessive thoughts and obviously for paranoia/psychosis - but I agree with phatass, you definitely need to be guided by an expert with regards to changing your meds rather than doing it yourself based on internet research and what people on a drugs forum think..

One thing I can say, cutting down on drinking should help your depression - or to put it another way, drinking a lot definitely worsens depression, so that is something you can do yourself if you want to feel in control of things - but I really would leave the prescription medication side of things to your doctor.

Good luck, I hope you find a combination that works for you!

^This. Alcohol use, while in the short term can "help" (notice the quotes) with depression symptoms, will invariably make things a lot worse. It can also cause anxiety. Reducing your drinking will help out a lot.
