Do doctors care?

Do doctors care about their patients?

I would argue they most likely dont, and just see it as a career thing. For instance, many asian familys in the uk want their children to be doctors, hence why we have so many..

I guess its a good career for the prestige and sometimes incomprehensible recognition for the 'good they do' but is it just a money making, detached profession? My suspicion is your doctor is covering his own back and does not give a fuck about you or me...

Why do people smother them in admiration?

I tend to agree with you there are exceptions but they are generaly few and far between. The only way around this is to build a relationship with a doc you gotta make them trust you and like you if its possibe. Its hard to do and still doesnt guarantee success but thats the game.

...
yes they care, but really can not afford to for many reasons.
no one is going to retain an interest to start medical classes, and actually make it through 10-12 years of school-intern-assistant for so many years then before actually establishing a residency or opening a practice. it is emotionally and intellectually brutal work.im not a Dr, but trying still ever yet to retire as a full-time-patient...

one example is over and under prescribing drugs, and the subject of caring and allowing emotions to take part in the drivers seat - a small example but the possibilities from this one are many.

being a Mental Health Medical Professional, you can maybe imagine the challenges if you allowed yourself to start worrying or wondering about your patients. not good.

if a Dr is convinced a person is lying, or confused about the pain or condition, under-prescribing and most likely not provide the treatment needed.

if they become attached to their patient emotionally, they could become more easily manipulated, and tricked into to over-prescribing...

being a doctor you are going to need to be a very objective and an easily detached person, for your safety, and eventually the comfort of your family, and your patient + their families well-being.
