Do Benzos help Opiate withdrawal?

Hello,

I was wondering if benzos such as Valium, would aid someone who is experiencing opiate withdrawal.

If someone was withdrawing from 40mgs of oxycodone (used daily for a year)

how much benzo (perhaps valium) would be reccomended way of aiding the person in pain. Used how many times per day?

They help with the anxiety and the sleep, most say they make it much easier, I personally think they make it worse. I would suggest playing with the doses til you are comfortable.

I, personally, don't think that Benzos help at all with opiate withdrawal, but this could be caused by the fact that I don't like benzos period. I have, however, heard people say that they would like some benzos because they're experiencing opiate withdrawal, but it has never relieved any of my symptoms. The dosage and the effects depend on the person. You'll just have to play with it.

Yes, generally they help a fair deal. Do a search, there is lots of info on this.

Benzos are commonly prescribed to ease opiate withdrawal. Valium takes the edginess off but by no means makes it comfortable. Doctors usually recommeded 10mg of Diazepam 4 times a day, and Temazepam or Nitrazepam before retiring.

30mg tamazepam
.75-1mg of xanax
2mg of ativan
1.5mg of klonopin

alcohole also helps.

Benzo's absolutely help you with the cravings. Why? Because at least you're high on something that's keeping your anxiety down and lowing your motivation to go get more opiates.

Klonopin has definantly been a life saver for me. Not a cure all, but a huge help.

Ovverated, but hey...it's better than nothing. Also, the worst part of WD is the restlessness and insomnia and these help somewhat.

10 mg Valium 4 times daily is common.

Although its not uncommon to overmedicate.

When w/d'ing I usually would take

40mg of Valium 3-4 times daily
2mg of Klonapin in the morning
Catapress patch or Clonadine pills (blood pressure regulator)
10mg of Compazine (if stomache comfort is insane)
200-500 mg of Trazadone in the evening (Or something stronger)

Damn, I would call that overmedicating unless you have a benzo tolerence too.

Benzos are fine.
I've also seen 2 abstracts which show that GHB helps in opiate and alcohol addiction. I'll try to dig them out. They showed some good results.
