Do all people take drugs to fit in?

I know I grew apart from some acquaintances when I started to use drugs. I think some people take some drugs (alcohol, cocaine, and ecstasy being the main ones) to have an easier time socializing, but even there they do not take the drugs because they think it will make them cool.

none of my close friends at the time ever took drugs
of course, they were terrifically boring people as well, & i eventually did find new friends

More than half of the time I get high by myself. So no, I don't do them to fit in. I do them because it's something I really enjoy doing.

If I wanted to fit in more, I'd not do any drugs.

this "taking drugs to be cool" is largely only relative to like young school kids. past those years I think it's very uncommon for someone to be interested in ingesting a drug to fit in socially.
Hit the nail on the head I think.

Fit into what? If they already are your friends, then whatever you do or don't should be acceptable to an extent. If you don't know the lot, is that what you want to do to gain their friendship? That is silly.

I think it is cool to say no and not pressure your friends to do it even if you KNOW they would love it and you would like someone to share the experience with you. I have been someone's "pusher" once and it doesn't feel good on the comedown.

I get high because I want to. I have turned down offers of drugs I wasn't interested in. I have backed up others who did not want to and the rest of our group was teasing him in to it.

The try hugs not drugs and drugs will make you cool are reserved for the school age set as said before. I would however feel a bit of shame if everyone I knew, knew what I involve myself in. 'Oh the disappointment," they would say. I would say, "sorry about that, now fuck off."

That's the mature response. Alot of people who start out taking drugs are more often than not doing it to fit in. Sure they might not say this to myself (Oh I have to take a pill so xxx thinks I'm cool) but they do it sub conciously, bragging about usage, saying how fucked up they are going to get and trying whatever drugs are around not what they actually want to try.

I chose to experiment with drugs slowly (still fast enough though), very low doseages, and only trying new drugs once I felt I understood the previous drug. I wanted to know what I was putting in my body and how it would effect me before having real fun with drugs and going a bit wild.

I would say not all people take drugs to fit in but unfortunately probably the majority of drug users did take them to fit in at the start.

If you take drugs to 'fit in' something is seriously wrong with you.

Try buying a pack of SC-extended release [self confidence] at the pharmacy next visit, that might help...

I think most people started smoking cigarettes to "fit in" or be cool at least that's what I've seen with the highschool crowd.

i agree with this, and actually ive read recently that the average age that kids try cigarettes now is 11. Which I think is ridiculous, but if you think about it, 11 years old is basically when you hit puberty, get into middle school by the next year or so, and have that whole identity crisis issue. Where I'm from kids don't really try drugs until highschool, and by that time if you're trying to be like a "cool kid" you probably are one helluv a reject. Though the one thing that I believe aside from cigarettes that a lot of people might/do try due to pressure is drinking. Drinking is a lot more widespread and the chances are imo your friends will be drinking before they're doing drugs (as the access is MUCH easier and it's more socially accepted).

The last bit of what I said doesn't pertain to MANY people but I'm trying to view this from an "outside the box" perspective.

I dunno...I started taking drugs for the experience, but I found that I definately fit in better, mostly because we were all high...I've found that one can only start taking drugs if they truly want to...and continue if they truly enjoy them.

Doing psychedelics to fit in and be cool turns into a very interesting experiment to see how much the person changes. The results are remarkable., It really breaks the persons ego and shows them how really small they are.
I've definetly seen this before, with good and bad results.

I think it's really dumb if you take drugs to fit in... usually you can tell if someone does anyways because they're usually the people that exagerate the high and get really annoying. I have this one friend that it's so obvious I found out some1 ripped her of and told her she had E when it wasn't at all and she 'felt it' but w/e.... I do drugs for the experience and how it makes me feel and somethings out of curiousity to see what it's like.l.. and in my school most people won't do anything more than drink because if you do and everyone finds out they look down on you.... in other words... more people don't do drugs than do i guess
