Most definitely, set and setting is huge with all drugs. I've noticed that I only really like ketamine on sunny days, because it's the difference between a sunny, HD vibrant ketamine world or the gloomy vibe of overcast clouds. I think there's also a bit of "grass is always greener" or "appeal to tradition fallacy" type of stuff going on.
Absolutely. With ket I'm the opposite, I do it in the winter usually in the evenings. I stick a decent music video playlist on my telly and watch it while I lay on my bed all wonked out in the dark then fall asleep after. Wake up the next morning feeling very nice instead of my usual depressed self. This is has become a yearly routine because my depression gets bad over winter and the ket helps a lot and so keeps me from upping my opiate/benzo use to cover it. Sometimes it works so well I even stop using other drugs altogether for a bit.
And yeah with the "MDMA was different back in my day..." crowd I honestly think it's primarily nostalgia driven. Perhaps that and a combination of not being used to our high dose pills, which to be fair are going to feel different - if you're used to a 120mg pill and take a 240mg one you're obviously going to have a different experience than expected.
It's the same with weed. You got the "weed these days is different cuz it's all skunk" lot. While this whole "skunk" business is overblown by the media, it is true that we're breeding more potent strains with higher THC content nowadays.
