Ok, my friend did a straight to base, cleaned it up and he has these GORGEOUS red crystals along with the fluffy white stuff he also got. Is there a difference between the white and red or is it all just N,N DMT? Thanks guys. Also, really this is my friend. The last time I did a DMT extraction I blew up a glass jar by adding the lye to fast.

Has he extracted from Mimosa Hostilis rootbark? The red color could be impurities or it could be the solvent used.

Don't use regular glass with exotermic substances! Use borosilicate or pyrex, of you wan't to use glass. Plasticcontainers af HPDE can be used as well.

blazR Thank you for the advice, regarding glass. I am extremely competent with chemistry, but thank you just the same. It did come from m. hostilis root bark.

Regarding the red crystals I was inclined to think this too, but it is SO SO crystalline. They are red, clear, and gorgeous. It doesn't look like an impurity.

How did he clean it up? DMT is never red it is some kind of impurity likely some of the basic mimosa soup that got pulled into the solvent or possibly from the solvent itself.

Recrystallize it and some extra gunk will drop out I promise. Let me say one more time DMT is *never* red and that is an impurity.

To recrystalize:

1.) Heat up 30ml naphtha or heptane per gram of DMT in a double boiler (shot glass in a pot of hot water is ideal for this)
2.) Drop your DMT into the hot solvent
3.) Wait about 30 seconds
4.) The DMT will go into the solution and the gunk will drop to the bottom of the shot glass
5.) Decant the solution from the gunk at the bottom of the shot glass (eye dropper is a great tool for this). Disgard the gunk.
6.) Either evaporate your solvent or do a freeze precipitation.

Your end product will range from white powder to clear crystals depending if you did a evap or freeze precip. I like to redissolve my end product in some ethanol and re-evaporate to get any residual naphtha out of the crystalline structure.

I think I remember reading something about xylene or toluene, maybe even another solvent, turning the crystals orange but not red though.

That is true you can pull jungle spice with either of those solvents or diethyl ether but it is more goopy and won't crystallize out

If you do a naphtha re-x on jungle you will still end up with white crystals. I don't think he is talking about jungle though because you won't yield white crystals at all using those solvents. It sounds like some of the mimosa mixture got pulled into the solvent

red/orange color is a full alkaloid extract, also known as jungle spice. fluffy white could be fats that were pulled by the solvent used. you never mentioned which solvent he used, but it sounds like it wasnt naptha.

if it was me id only use pyrex but since some people dont have access to that...

only use plastic for dissolving the lye, then once its dissolved switch to glass so the heat of mixing doesnt shatter the glass. plastic doesnt hold up very well to strong solvents like dcm and xylene/toluene. it can dissolve, leaving you with a solid mass of plastic-y dmt. ever notice how most solvents come in glass or metal containers and acids/bases come in glass or plastic? the only plastic thats suitable for short term solvent storage is hdpe. make sure it says hdpe on the bottle

Yup, DMT freebase is a white to off-white crystal. If you're pulling red/orange stuff it's closer to what the tekkers call "jungle spice" or full alkaloid extract. It has DMT but also a variety of other alkaloids & tannins that notably change the character of the experience.

I use Pyrex bottles myself and it would be the best I agree.

About HPDE plastic and solvents like naphta or heptane.. I'm pretty sure those solvents wont dissolve the plastic, since both of the solvents comes in plastic-containers in my country.
