A legal 'high' known as Benzo Fury could be as dangerous as illegal drugs such as ecstasy, a new study has revealed. Experiments suggest the pills, which can be bought over the internet for £10 each or £25 for three, are addictive and could cause high blood pressure. Benzo Fury is currently one of the most popular legal 'highs' in the UK and is also sold in the US. It is freely available to buy via the internet, at music festivals and clubs.
The man-made amphetamine is believed to give users a sense of euphoria, working on brain tissue in the same way as stimulants and hallucinogenics. The effect has been most closely compared with the drug ecstasy. This combination is often found in illegal substances controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act - making them potentially lethal.
