React : biography

Inspired by the early music of Detroit, Chicago, and mix tapes by Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Hyperactive, and Claude Young, React (born in Detroit – 1977) began collecting and learning to mix records in the fall of ‘97. In July of the following year, after participating in the vibrant Midwest rave scene for 2 years, React co-founded Ohio-based Subsonik Productions - a multimedia production crew with a 6+ year history of events featuring some of the worlds most sought after artists, including, Dave Angel, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Marco Carola, Funk D' Void, James Ruskin, Alexi Delano, James Pennington, Dan Curtin, Titonton Duvante, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, and some of the Midwest’s brightest up-and-coming talent. By the end of 1999, React took full control of Subsonik Productions, went to work as the Techno, House, and Drum n' Bass Buyer for Hotwax Music, and began maintaining a busy DJ schedule, with booking requests from promoters looking for a distinctive, main-room techno sound for their events. The following 6 years found React appearing at numerous clubs and underground parties in cities across the Midwest, including Indianapolis, Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Louisville, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and elsewhere, being billed alongside influential artists such as Claude Young, Kevin Saunderson, Alexi Delano, James Ruskin, Derrick May, Gaetano Parisio, Titonton Duvante, Adam X, Paul Birken, Tony Rohr, Terry Mullan, Shawn Rudiman, Adam Jay, Fabrice Lig, Marco Carola, Oliver Ho, and most recently, Locutus and Gene LeFosse. .

Fast forward to the present, React has produced 25 events under the Subsonik moniker, co-produced a dozen or so other parties outside of his own company, and registered hundreds of DJ hours on the Midwest circuit. In addition to being an experienced and skilled DJ capable of igniting dance floors in an instant - a talent that is evident in both live performance and a recent independent mix release "Forward State" - React is a talented graphic designer producing artwork relating mainly to electronic music, artists, and events. Currently, React is planning a complete update and redesign of the Subsonik website to coincide with the promotion of a series of small, intimate techno events to take place in Chicago, where he currently lives and works.
