What are your guys' thoughts?

Obviously a bunch of people disagree with Guetta being number one. Tiesto is always going to be around the top 5 because of the big name, but I don't think he has any business in the top 10. Armin is obviously deserving, and I know a lot of people have a problem with Deadmau5 (myself included), but he definitely deserves a top 5 spot. A&B is awesome. I can't really get into Avicii but by the number of fans he has and how quickly his shows sell out I can't argue there. Afrojack I am indifferent about. He is all over the radio right now which is kind of lame, but at the same time that's just how mainstream dance music is getting (I honestly enjoy the recognition EDM is getting in the US right now.) Dash Berlin is awesome, I saw him a few weeks ago and he played a great show. Markus Schulz is alright, and SHM definitely deserves a top 10 spot. I just wanted to point out Skrillex at the number 19 position. This is a DJ poll. He has some of the worst DJ skills I have ever seen, and I've seen him four times. Kind of ridiculous but by how many people are madly in love with him it definitely makes sense.

Besides that I am disappointed that Sander Van Doorn has moved down.. it doesn't make any sense, but I love the fact that Fedde Le Grand moved up from the 30s. Awesome. I can understand how PVD moved from the 6th spot, he is getting kind of old! And doesn't seem to be touring as much, though I've loved seeing him both times I had the chance. I am also glad that Ferry Corsten moved down. He is realllly boring live to me. As for Headhunterz, I don't really understand that he moved up 19 spots. I guess hardstyle isn't my thing...

Could we get a link? I'm interested in this list...

As much as I love Deadmau5, the fact that he dissed the title of DJ as a whole yet still makes it in the top 10 is ridiculous.

yea there is sooo many artists I would have rather seen in the top 10... it's kind of fucked up, but there has been evidence of people buying top spots. I guess that's just how it goes.... how about we turn this into a "make your own" top 10 thread...?

You know the list is bullshit when Skrillex, a guy who doesn't even DJ has a number 19 slot. That really grinds my gears.

It's that time of the year again. How fast time flies...

You know the list is bullshit when Skrillex, a guy who doesn't even DJ has a number 19 slot. That really grinds my gears.

I think what they really mean is the top 100 DJs/Producers and just DJs. Not that I think Skrillex is an unbelievable producer, but I think his tracks are supposed to be better than his mixing skills.

I saw david guetta about 3 years ago when he was supporting fatboy slim and he completely ruined my buzz ... He cant mix for shit and from where i was standing it looked like he was just standing up there drinking water and then occasionally dropping some bass or pausing the music to get a reaction from the crowd ... As far as his producing goes.. Hes a puppet that sells records to sheep .. Turrible list . Nice to see infected mushroom so far up tho

Yea I think IM was actually 13 last year though...

Guetta is bad, I saw him at north coast and watched fucking wiz khalifa instead of him half way though! That says something. And I went into his set with a completely open mind.

Skrillex's production skills are like 10x better than his DJ skills. I really dislike the guy, but if you are going for that brostep stuff nobody can deny that he is the best at it. It's just a fact. I am going to his show to see Dillon Francis and Dada Life this saturday... and to be honest am pretty fucking stoked to see his new setup.. its straight wicked.

This list is ridiculous. Not only are the top 10 kind of fucked, but some great dj's are ranked so low. Wolfgang dj's an amazing set. Even though he only has a few hit tracks, he keeps great music coming and mixes it in with an incredible flow. I saw him at bisco only having heard illamerica and was blown away, best performance of the whole festival.

I havIn the last year I have seen Armin, SHM, Deadmau5, Cosmic Gate, tyDi, and Gabriel and Dresden just to name a few, and they were all awesome. I saw Guetta once in 2008 and even then he didn't perform as well as I thought.

They have all released at least a few amazing tracks/mixes this year and I have not heard a good track from Guetta in years...all his stuff you hear on the radio and sounds more like pop music than any house/electro/trance/progressive the other DJs produce....

yea where is wolfgang on the list? he is the man I saw him over halloween.

Number 56 which is bullshit, I saw him this year also. Dropped some awesome edits and mashups, perfect combination of electro/fidget and tech house. DJ Mad seems to have something against americans.

I just don't get why there is only one dubstep artist on the ENTIRE list of 100 lol. Plus andy C is not on the list anymore so there is no DnB either.

You're right they really do dislike american artists. Maybe someone should remind them that house music was born in Chicago... and techno in Detroit...

It's a joke of a system. After moving from Australia to America, I have to admit Chicago knows its house music.....but the top 100 is a popularity contest and I will never take the ratings seriously again...

While certainly laughable and obviously fixed, the DJ Mag Top 100 did turn me on to some artists that I was previously unfamiliar with. Anything that broadens my knowledge of EDM can't be all bad. When I first read the list I had a couple thoughts pop into my mind. They were:

"Gosh, does Ultra Records sponsor the list, lol? "

"You'd think DJ Mag only covers trance."

Everytime I see Avicii's name I picture Pretty Lights beating him up for "Levels".

"This list needs fewer saw and triangle waves and more conga and cowbell."

"People still listen to hardstyle?"

"Boy George? Is that a typo?"

"Is Richie Hawtin still relevant as a DJ?"

Of course, I think only a handful of the artists on the list actually deserve it. They are:
Armin Van Buuren
PVD
Fedde Le Grand
Laidback Luke
Daft Punk
Carl Cox
Cosmic Gate
Eric Prydz
Astrix
Wolfgang Gartner
Umek
Sasha
Paul Kalkbrenner
Judge Jules
Paul Oakenfold
Hernan Cattaneo
Roger Sanchez
Bloody Beetroots
Nero
James Zabiela
Sven Vath

Some of the others were questionable as in "These guys don't completely suck but I'm not quite sure why there on the list b/c their performances and productions are hit + miss." They are:
Axwell
Swedish House Mafia
Hardwell
Steve Aoki
Richie Hawtin
John O'Callaghan
Porter Robinson

Finally, I learned about a handful of new (to me) artists to keep an eye out for this year. They are:
Sebastian Ingrosso
Calvin Harris
Bobina
Orjen Nilsen
Roger Shah
Eric Morillo
Showtek
Eddie Halliwell
Moonbeam
Myon + Shane 54
Sean Tyas
Matt Zo
Dimitri Vegas + Like Mike
DJ Vibe
Felguk
Juanjo Martin
Marcel Woods
Leon Bolier

Of course, I feel some others were unfairly ommitted. They are:
Eric Cloutier
Nicolas Jaar
Ben Klock
Mr. Scruff
Bonobo
Mark Farina
Luke Vibert
Marco Carolla
Mauro Picotto
Bassnectar

Nicolas Jaar, Bonobo and Bassnectar definitely have been on that list. I am partial towards Simon Posford as well, but I feel he doesn't really need to be on a list like that. :)

No Loco Dice?

wtf lmao

Serious anybody who takes this list even slightly seriously doesn't know anything about EDM
