if this is a good idea would it need to be pure alcohol or would regular spirits work?

Dissolving 4-AcO-DMT only for the purpose of degradation prevention would be purpose defeating because compounds are typically less stable in solution. Especially 4-substituted tryptamines, although 4-HO's are apparently much worse than 4-AcO's.

People tend to dissolve compounds for volumetric measurement if their scales are not accurate enough or for injection, but not to keep them stable. In case there is any slim chance you might continue taking these kinds of potent chemicals in your life, it is rewarding to buy a milligram scale and to leave volumetric measurement only for superpotent chemicals in the microgram or single digit milligram range. That way you can afford to keep a drug stored as crystal or powder.

Compounds like this are best stored absolutely dry, air- and moisture proof, protected from light, at cold temperatures - not only as cold as you can store it but also with the least possible fluctuations in temperature.

For my collection this means most of my tryptamines, but not my phenethylamines - there may be the occasional exemption.

So this should either be a proper answer for you, or you meant there was another reason to do this - in which case: please rephrase the question. :)

What he said, Also I have done this - for volumetric measurement (and ease of smuggling into a festival). Solution was grey by day one, brown by day two and black opaque by day three. Ended up handing it out to people just because it was going off. I didn't mind, was only £50 worth for 20 trips or so, but not good for long term storage.
