let the liquor flow free
we have no other place to be.
turn our tones down low
click on the pocket radio.

the streets shimmer, alit
in a city where nothing fits.
echoes quelled by the rain
rarely does the sun shine again.

yet here we stand,
and you grip my hand.
your world courses through me,
and i'm timeless for a minute.

yesterday's frown supplied
the smile today applied;
let the liquor flow free
tonight the destitute party

That's really quite nice. I get a feeling of angst when I read it, coupled with a sense of optimism, of hope. It's an interesting dichotomy I think.

What realy seems to grab me are the 13&14 lines. To me they display most vividly the melancholly yet hopeful motif of the poem. Nice writing thujone.
