Recycle the valve too. Brass is worth a lot more than mild steel.

There seems to be 2 valve styles. The one in the picture above is 14mm but you need a socket with a flat face since there is not a lot sticking up. The newer style with the relief valve is 21mm and easier to grab. I took a grinder and cut a notch in a 21mm socket so it fits better over the relief valve. They just go in my recycle bin. Nobody has complained since without a valve, it is just scrap metal. I go through lots of the 3 KG tanks. (2 a week anyway)

Thanks for this, I tried to get a valve off with an adjustable spanner but it slipped, I'll source a flat spanner and give it another go. I'm assuming they aren't reverse threaded or anything odd like that?
