Discussion:Where do you get your subject matter from?

I'm a terrible rapper.
but i can speak well if that counts.

improv is one of the coolest art forms

Welcome.:) I just think it's important to try and dissect something that comes naturally.

I generally get my inspiration from books I read, new music I listen too, poems that people write on this forum, and deep meditation... lately I cant seem to get anything new out I keep regurgitating old thoughts in similar ways... kind of stuck

^ i know that feelin all too well, my fellow stoner. sometimes I find myself pulling off this (when performing for someone) verbal cut-and-paste from random poems. i mean, when it flows right, it's good sounding improv. sometimes it's just a trainwreck of mumbles, stutters, repeated words, and trail-offs. or lines & stanzas & phrases just don't fit together as expected due to lack of planning. the best way to abolish writer's block is to pick up a thesaurus or dictionary, grab pen and paper, find some interesting words that you can develop some sort of relation to and use them as a base to extend upon, building your paragraphs and rhyme and whatnot. well thats the easiest way. ive been up all night, mad props to whoever understood this crazytalk

ps. def heard that bout the writing here in this forum for inspiration. very interesting pieces

I'm glad you said this. when I was younger doing MDMA and LSD that's when it really began to come out. also in the past year I was in inpatient programs then locked up in jail I realized that I had this talent all along, I just never took the time to give a damn for it and take the advantage, getting way far out of boundaries, experimenting with all sorts of words and how they stick together compoundly. also make up my own words; such as "compoundly"=D

thinking deeper over it now, in a sense, everything that i see or experience, feel or think about, dream or fantasize, everybody I've met... it all rolls into one in the long term groove.
