Hey, I was just curious as o whether anyone knew how long it took the 5ht2a receptor to gain clearance after discontinuing an antipsychotic (geodon)? Wikipedia said a few days but I know wikipedia isn't always correct. Thanks!

I really am not sure I am afraid! Does wikipedia cite sources? If you can find some primary sources that would be much better than trusting what it says..

No wiki doesn't site the source I don't think, I really just happened to come across this bit of info while reading about the effects of 4-aco-dmt on wikipedia.

I think it would rather depend on the half-life of the neuroleptic and the dose.

Going to subscribe to this thread as I've just started up on olanzepine, would be interested to know more about what is going to happen when I finally come off it, the doctor told me that it will be a million times easier than discontinuing benzos as it is non addictive but she didn't really have much else to say. I'm hoping that a wealth of information will be in this thread by the time that I finally come off olanzepine so I know what to expect.

It would depend on the medication in question as they have varying half-lives.

For future reference, I can dose 10mg olanzapine daily, stop, and three days later trip without any perceived loss of effect.

^^ this is really what I was getting at, that bit of info may help.
P.S. Me and my med giver agree I really don't need the geodon, I just have to be weened off.

I was on 5mg of Zyprexa but was switched to 25-50mg Seroquel because I figured the shorter half life would give me more energy at night but Ive been taking sometimes 200mg cuz I actually dont mind its effects. it certainly helps me sleep & i dont get anything to tired in the morning a cup of coffee or 2 wont fix so im gunna run out early so im also kinda interested

okay heres the issues if ur long time users of high doses of seroquil u will feel like shit the first couple days after stopping i was on 600mg thru out the day and it sucked comin off couldnt sleep minds out of wack chills all kinds of no good no where near heroin wd but it still shitty to feel shitty after getting clean off dope

Would be quite hard to make one I think as there are diferent kinds of antipychotics, I guess that there are for benzos too, and the YMMV theory applies to antipsychotics and benzos but I think that it would be nigh on impossible to put together an antipsychotic conversion chart like the opioid and benzo ones that are pinned at the top of the forum.

You went cold turkey off of 600mg daily dosage of Seroquel?

I'd like to see an antipsychotic conversion table, does anybody have access to one?

Conversions don't really exist for antipsychotics in the same way they do for opioids or benzos, like Mugzy said - they don't produce a physical dependence in the way benzos/opioids do, but instead have a withdrawal syndrome (which not everyone gets) - along the same lines as SSRI discontinuation syndrome. Tapering is still recommended from high doses, and you can switch from one to the next but you would probably do it tapering one down and the other one up.

I do have a swanky table here with dosage info along with receptor affinity, half-life, metabolism, comparison of side effects and a few other bits and bobs. It only covers the atypicals but it's pretty handy :)
